I need some help. I am very interested in shooting the 168 LR AB bullet out of my 7mm RUM, but I have some questions before I start loading them. Would a 1:9 twist be O.K. for this bullet? Velocities will likely run in the 3200 ft./sec. range. Barrel is stainless 27 3/4 in. on a Ruger No.1 What seating depth should I use, magazine length not being an issue? I am currently using the 160 AB & seating .010 off touch. Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.

A 9 twist should be fine. If you're having success loading 0.010 inches off the lands now, I should imagine that would be a good starting place for the 168 grain LR AB.

I think the 1-9 will work fine. As far as I know, nobody has shot any of the new bullets, so it's new ground for us. I am hoping the 168's work, as I plan on running them in my 7mm WSM!

A 1:9 twist is a common spin for the 7mm and Nosler is designing the ABLR for such use.
You will be just fine.

Thank you all. I appreciate the replies. Can't wait for them to become available.

Hopefully we will get them up here on the north side of the 49th. I will be definitely trying them out in my new 280AI which is has a 1-9 twist. I think that they will be just what the doctor ordered

Blessings,
Dan

You will be fine with a 9 twist, especially at 7 RUM velocities.

I usually start right off, or .005" off the lands.

Anxiously waiting for the 7mm/168 for the 7 RMs, and the 30/210's for the 300 Win.

Here are the recommended twist rates for the AB LR.
