Hi There,

Can somebody please run a Quickload for a 300 WSM, VV-N550 and 168 grain TTSX. John Barness, suggests 64.0 grains as his pet load for 165 grainers in this caliber. I am wondering it that is safe my intended bullet. Thanks.

Oops - barrel is 24 inches and case capacity is approx. 80.92 grains of water.

You should be good with that charge of VN550.

Consequently, VN550 and VN560 are two of the most accurate powders I have found in the 300 WSM. They are virtually mandated to be in my powder magazine for this calibre.

Thanks once again Dr. Mike,

Tried VV-N550, and accuracy was alright - nothing MOA though and not quite as accurate as H4350 has been for me.

With 165/168 grainers in the 300WSM, what has your experience shown you to be better - VV-N550 or N560. I know N550 is listed as the best for 180 grainers in the Nosler Manual 6. Very curious.

I have primarily focused on 180 to 200 grain bullets with VN550 and VN560. Actually, I've found that faster powders work better with the 165/168 grain bullets. I run heavy for calibre in my own rifle. I am not really surprised that H4350 has served you well with the 165/168 grain bullets. I've had great success with IMR4831, with Hunter and with H380 in these particular bullets. These powders don't necessarily give me the highest velocities, but they do give me the best accuracy. The velocity is not all that far off the top mark, however.
