For about 25 years I've used nothing but the old surplus 4831 in my 270. No complaints really, but Ive been trying some different powders lately trying to improve ballistics. With h-4831 sc and h-1000 I could'nt get any more velocity than the old surplus powder. I usually load 150 partitions and with the stated powders I average about 2790 f.p.s. from my 22 inch barrel. Have any of you guyys used r-l 22 with 150's and how did it perform?

I haven`t used it with 150s but with 130-140 gr bullets it gives a little more velocity then H4831 in my rifle. The increase isn`t much though, and I stay with it more for the better accuracy I get with it and 140s then the extra zip. The 130 gr bullets shoot better in my rifle with H4831 and only give 50 or so fps up.

H1000 was a disaster in my rifle. The case won`t hold enough to get the velocities I get with other powders and the stuff was sooty as well from the lower pressures it was working under. I only tried it with 130 gr bullets and quit.

I am just starting up loading 130 and 140 Nosler bullets for a new 270. Just trying H4381 for now (on account of the temp insensativity thing). So far I have a little more work to do to get the accuracy I want. But hotter loads seem to be the way to go out of my Sako.

RL22 was magic in my 270 Win & 270 Imp. 58 gr of RL22 yeilded 2800 in my 15" barrel. When it was rechambered the velocity rose to 2950.

RL22 & IMR 7828 are nearly identical twins and the only two powders I use in my shootin irons.

Awesome stuff.
