I communicated with JB regarding his article

http://www.24hourcampfire.com/newsletters/May_2009.html

and he told me that he found Hunter to be very temperature stable. I use it for several .30-06 rifles and find it to be very consistent.

P

HAve you tried Hunter in the 7-08? Can't remember how you loaded yours?

The folks at Ramshot directed me to Big Game instead. Two mulies and a 4x4 Roosevelt later I can't complain.

47.5 Big Game, WLRM primer, Rem brass, 2.805" COAL, 140 NP. I switched to 140 NAB and maintained MOA accuracy.

6 different .30-06 (I'm Dr. Feelgood for the family) rifles all get Hunter. 3 bulls and idk how many bucks, no complaints.

P

That's awesome. My son will be running his 7x57 with 150 PTs in Oregon this Fall if he draws. Your post pushed me over the edge. Can't wait to get to hunting!

I've been messing around with Hunter and the .30-06 for a while now.

Not ready to post up my results yet, but they're good. Particularly with the 180's and 185's.

I forgot MV, 2843 ft/sec with low ES and SD.

Shoot straight,

I use Hunter in my 338wm. Pushing the 200ET @ 3010 and .5-.75moa. Haven't played with it much above 55° though so I can't comment on the temp sensitivity. I can't seem to find any Ramshot powder localy any more so I might make the switch to RL17 when I run out.

Rl17 shot well in mine with the 225AB. Dang near 2900 shot lights out twice then fell apart but I think that that particular rifle needs cleaned more often than all my others as my Hunter load with the 200ET did the same thing.

This is what QL is looking like for my rifle.

I'll be giving them both a try pretty soon.

So close in velocities that you won't be able to tell the difference. The difference in case fill is not dramatic. Even the barrel time is within 0.004 msec, which is pretty close. I'd say use whichever of these two powders you had on hand.

I have 5lbs of both, so I should be able to sort it out pretty quick! It took me awhile to warm up to 17, but it is really kicking butt in the 35 Newton. Haven't tried the first grain in the 338, but it seems like there might be something to it.

I've got 6/10 of a pound of Hunter on my shelf, and I am not going to use it. If anyone in the DFW area wants it, then speak up. I want little to nothing for it, or maybe a swap for some shotgun powder like 800x or something.
