Has anybody played with this? I have Big Game a little and really like it, was thinking about giving Magnum a shot in my STW, 270 WSM, and maybe in the 270 weatherby. Have any of you guys used it in any of these?
I've used a lot of Magnum in a variety of cartridges. It is a "go to" powder for a couple of cartridges; but on many, though velocity is up, accuracy is not what I could have wished. I test it in almost every STW I've shot, but other powders have inevitably given me better accuracy. I tested it in the last 270 Weatherby that passed through the reloading room (150 grain Bergers and 140 grain TSX), but the results were similar--good velocities and less than stellar accuracy. I tested it in a couple of 270WSMs, but it didn't work out for me.
I have saw some good data for it Jake, but I think RL25 fills that spot for me most of the time. I think RL33 will be the cooker for them though, once it is hear. I have a hard time thinking that it will not work really well in alot of the cartridges we shoot. The data looks very good in it, that is for sure.
I find more utility for Hunter than for Magnum. Hunter seems to shine in standard cartridges as well as in the short magnums. It does not produce the highest velocities, but accuracy seems always good with Hunter.
I played with some for my 300Win mag but since it was not the most accurate or gave me the velocities I expected in my 300Win mag I gave it to a friend to try but have not heard how it did for him.
