Wanted to do a little practice with the 338 Win Mag today. Decided to sling it up from the sitting position. Rifle turned in two pretty decent groups. I was pretty happy with my performance. Load seems solid and the POA looks good for hunting. These are all from 200 yards.

It felt pretty good to wrap up in a hasty sling and push those 210 PT's downrange.

I also sent some rounds downrange with my son's 243 and the 105 Amax's. That is a load I really enjoy shooting and the little rifle is a huge relief compared to the bigger boomers. This rifle only has the little 4X Leupold on it, and man, I'll tell you, I dig that little scope on that rifle. Pretty fun to practice with..

I also had to rezero my Model 70 7mm WSM. I just put a 2-10 Minox on it. I shot it at 25 yards to get it on paper, then shot 3 from the bench..

I then made some bold clicks to get it zeroed at 200. Not perfect, but I think it'll be okay for now.

I also got another load to work with in the 300WSM. Seems to be doing okay with the 200 AB and RL19. Need to run a seating depth profile and see what it turns out, but it looks sorta decent. These are seated right off the lands, and I imagine as all AB's do, they will tighten up as they get further from the rifling. Speeds look decent hovering right around 2900, but with the bright sun, I need to verify that too..

Pretty decent day, too hot, forgot the awning and had the Secada's blasting me the entire time trying to shoot. Ah well, still, all in all, a decent day on the range. Gotta get out earlier next time though. I like to beat the heat if I can..

I'll tell ya this though, if you haven't slung up in awhile. It's worth it, talk about humbling!

Very nice shooting Scotty! The sling sit is a very nice way to shoot. JOC preached it in his books.

Those groups are gonna put a hammering on a bear for you for sure!

That's the best part of load development. Once you have good loads you can work on the biggest variable in the formula. You! Looks like a great day at the range. I hate being tied to the bench and bags.

Scotty that is great shooting from a sitting position & at 200 yards. I wish I was that capable.
Thank you for sharing Bud.

Blessings,
Dan

Nice work Scotty - if "work" means having fun at the rifle range!

Cool. Yes, agree. Bears are in big trouble. If they've got the internet, they're going Back into Hibernation for a few weeks right now!

That little .243 load looks great! That's a no-excuses load...

Thanks for sharing all that. Guy

Looks good to go Scott...you can have that sling stuff though. Did you try any shooting with the Montana sling?

That's what I used Joel. The Montana sling is pretty much permanently attached to the 338, since It uses Chicago Screws to secure it on the rifle. The swivels are permanently fixed, so that is the sling I went with.

Make sure you lock tight them screws. I had Chicagos come loose on a headstall and it can get you in a wreck in a hurry. It would be a shame for one to come loose and you drop your rifle.
