I took out my 6.5 x 284 built by High Score Gunsmithing out of my closet and had some dust on it. I last shot it last April when the crops were too high to shoot anymore. I last used the 142 MatchKings and shot an average of 1.5-1.75 inch 5 shot group at 500 yards.
I bought some Bergers and could not get the Noslers yet. The 140 grn. Bergers on fireformed Lapua cases, 48.2 grns. of H4831sc and BR-2 primers was the load. I took a shooting table 700 yards from the berm and used the 6.5x284 with BR McMillian stock on a Uncle Bud's bullbag and a rabbit ear for the rear butt, fit was not good in the Bud's bullbag though with the flat stock. I need to get a rest soon. I doped the wind and elevation from reading the notes taped to the stock and took 5 shots and trigger was set at 4 ounces with Leupy 6.5 x 20 LR target scope. After wrapping up and went back to the target, 5 shots clustered 2 inches left of the bullseye and measured a nice 1.6 inch group and I was so happy.
The Bergers has a more flatter trajectory than the Kings especially out to 1000 yards. The BC is .627 on the Bergers, what would the BC be on the Noslers? I would need the heaviest bullet available for the 1-8 twist.
I will make more bullets of the same load and retry again for 1000 yards in the early morning hours when there is less mirage and post the results with some pics.
