G'day all,

New member from Australia with a question about the suitability of Re25 behind 120gn projectiles in the 25/06?

Are there other members out there using it, and if so, what are your comments on the suitability, velocity, accuracy etc?

Also, a rough idea of charge weights would be great.

Regards,
Dicko.

Welcome DickO,

Some one will pipe in, I dont shoot a 25/06 but a 6.5/06 Imp with 141 gr & 59grs of RL25 very accuratly. I would assume that with the heavier 115/120 bullets you ought to be good to go. Pretty slow powder that likes the heavy bullets.

Some one with field experience wiill pipe in. But definaitly welcome, one thing we require of members from AU is to post hunting/shooting pix so we can understand what your talking about....

Dicko,

I don't load for this particular cartridge, but QuickLoad projects that with a 120 grain Nosler Partition, a maximum charge of 59.0 grains of RL25 will give you a velocity of ~3179 fps from a 24 inch barrel. Fifty-seven grains of RL22 with the same bullet will almost match the RL25, missing the velocity by an inconsequential 11 fps. Other powders that will give you similar results with a 120 grain PT include Ramshot Magnum, Norma MRP, IMR7828, and ADI AR 2213 and ADI AP 2214.

Welcome to the forum. RL 25 and Retumbo are both great powders to try in your 25-06.

Dicko -

Absolutely welcome to the forum !
There will be a lot of info to follow here - I don't have a 25-06, but RL-25 has become my go to powder for my .257 Weatherby topped with 115 B-tips.
As Dr. Mike mentioned other powders - don't overlook the IMR-7828.

Ah this is all good to hear. Load development isn't finished yet so I'll persist with Re25.

I won't post all my info, however I'm thinking 58.3gn Re25 will be my working load, for 3104fps which I'm more than happy with.

I thought I may be pushing things a little too much as a charge of 58.9gn popped out a primer. I've given the matter serious thought and I'm not convinced that I didn't overload that round.

58.0gn Re25 3082fps
58.3gn Re25 3104fps
58.6gn Re25 3120fps
58.9gn Re25 3335fps (the load that popped out the primer). None of the previous loads showed ANY signs of pressure, in fact some displayed sooty case necks which I've been led to believe is a sign of low pressure?

Hopefully I'll get the chance to run these loads of the chrony again tomorrow.

Regards,
Dicko.

Thank you all very much for the kind welcome.

I'm not all that certain that IMR powders are readily available in Australia? I will keep my peepers open when I visit the big smoke next. I do have some AR2213sc/H4831sc on hand ...

Dicko,

QuickLoad projects 56.5 grains of AR 2213 as a maximum charge, generating 3157 fps in a 24 inch pipe. The SC should be an identical charge. Just remember to work up as lot-to-lot variations can pull some real surprises on you. For instance, when I ran H4831, it maxed out at 56.0 grains. The difference is due to lot-to-lot variation with the sample tested to establish the burn rate. Ten percent variation is not unheard of in these powders.

Welcome to the forum buddy.

I have been using RL 25 for years.

58 gr for the 100 gr
57 gr for the 110 gr and
56 gr for the 120.

Start low work up slow.

G'day,

I've just come back from firing off a few crackers in the end stages of working up a load for my 25/06.

I reckon I'll use 58.3gn Re25 with the 120gn projectile as my working load, gives me ~1moa groups and even better when I do my bit, at a velocity of 3127fps.

Regards,
Dicko.

MOA is good. Sounds as if you have a good load going for you. It should do the job.
