I did my final sight-in shooting five rounds today with my 7mm08 using a 160gr Speer SBT moving 2820fps. It was a morning full of all kinds of distractions.

1. The tin roof over my head had so much frozen condensation that when the sun hit the roof at 7:30 it was a virtual rain storm especially when I pulled the trigger on the first round. The dripping water was so bad I had to cover my receiver laying a towel over the scope (protecting my receiver area) to shoot, because water fell on the back of the scope and splashed into my eyes just as I released the trigger startling me and moving the round to the right.

2. My Chronograph stopped working after the second round, because my battery died. Reached in the shooting box to get the back up battery and remembered I had given my back up the to grand kids for one of their toys. Good thing I had two velocity recordings and they were 2818 and 2820fps in the same range as the other day.

3. Not my best day shooting this load but it will do and I will go right one click and come down two clicks given me a 2.5" high at 100yds matching my LR Duplex at 300, 400 and 500yds.

4. It was 37 degrees by the time I started shooting and I was cold not dressing like I should. I am ready to go hunt and I can't wait to have time away from work and also the load bench, just relaxing in the woods in anticipation of taking game. :):)

5. It was a beautiful day with only a 3 mile an hour wind and low humidity. Following are pictures of the range and my five shot group.

That'll do, Mike. Good show. Of course, I don't think of 37 F as cold. It is -9 C (15 F) here this morning and snowing.

You invite me up there and I will share the cold with you just to have a chance at the game you take for granted

But I don't think it's cold right now. After -29 a week ago, I was wearing a tee shirt and a vest yesterday when I went out to the television station! It was brisk, but not cold. Besides, this weather gets the mule deer moving.

Mike enjoy the hunt, the rifle is ready to go!

Yes, it is and believe it or not (FOTIS you stay out of this  ) I am tired of the load bench, no more for the rest of this year and until hunting season is over.

I use two Chronographs to check any load that is fast for the cartridge, because I publish a lot of my work. Both of my chronographs which are made by different companies confirmed my finding with the 24" PacNor on my 7mm08 using W760, just like Q/L said I would get in this area of velocity and not be over max and Q/L was right about the 160gr Speer. I cannot get to 2800fps with the Sierra or Nosler bullets in this weight, I tried it.

Here is when I reached max and it was obvious a max load.

Her it is when I reached the Q/L suggested load with a 24" barrel.

Even I cannot believe that. I don't remember you saying that before!!! Take care.

I know it is hard to believe, sure hope I don't make myself a liar by making that statement. But seriously, I am tried of the load bench this year. I have done so much this year in load work that I need a break and hunting season will be that break.

I can only dream about weather like that Mike.
