Lately I have been contemplating my current load for my Ruger Hawkeye .243 Win. It is consistently sub-MOA at 100 and the few times I’ve ran it on paper at 200 it’s a hair over 1 MOA, so plenty good for my deer hunting purposes but still some room for improvement. I took a decent 4x4 whitetail with it in November and have no complaints with on game performance. I have been considering putting a CDS turret on it for some longer range coyote medicine, but can’t decide if I’m happy enough with the load to commit to a custom turret. My load data is:
95 Nosler Ballistic Tip
41 gr. H4350
CCI 200
WW brass
2760 FPS on the magneto speed
Typically i don’t chase speed, and I am above Nosler max and one grain below Hodgdon max without pressure signs. Out of a 22” tube, is this comparable to what you guys are seeing with similar loads? My curiosity is probably coming from too much spare time this winter, but it keeps my mind busy. Haha. So CDS, yes or no? And what velocity would expect out of a 22” .243 running 95s? Any input is appreciated.
