How much more does the 300 WSM recoil than a regular 300 Win mag?
If the difference is negligible, I may just get my son a 300 win mag or give him mine which already has a muzzle break on it.
Then I'll have to find me something else.
I have shot several 300 Win Mags and only one 300 WSM. As I recall, there wasn't really much difference between them. Good stock fit and recoil pad will make a big difference in perceived recoil.
Thanks. I was thinking why buy more brass and dies if I dont have to.
If I can work him up to a full load with out bringing his Flinch back, he could shoot a 300 as easily as a 300 WSM. And save som money in the meantime!
I can't remember where I've seen it, but I believe there are some recoil calculators out there....JD338 ????? biggameinfo.com possibly? I use it a lot for ballistics...
Anyway.. Nosler #6 Guide attempting to compare apples to apples here....RL-19 powder for the the .300 & WSM with a 180 grain bullet.
Max charge of 73.0 grians for the Win Mag, and 67.0 for the WSM. Paper wise I'd speculate slightly less from the WSM?? Again weight of rifle ? recial pad etc etc... probably too close to call.
About 25 yrs ago, there was a father and son who shot in the club leagues.
They both shot 300 Win Mags with 165 gr bullets that were loaded down to 30-06 levels. That is when I realized just how versatile the 300 Win Mag really is. Remington is now offering their "Power Level" ammunition, same concept.
