I was just cleaning up files on my computer and ran across these pictures of a couple 250 grain .338 Partition Gold bullets we loaded for my friends bison hunt a few years ago.

The bison - a ~ 2000 pound mature bull - was a true wild animal taken in Northern British Columbia. Tim took the first shot broadside through the lung at 100 yards. The bull traveled about 75 yards and laid down. When my friend walked up on him the bull climbed back to his feet so caught another bullet in the side of his neck from about 25 feet.

The bullet on the left was found under the hide on the off-side from the lung shot. The one on the right was dug out of the neck vertebrae.

Wow - heavy duty performance for sure!

Thanks for posting that.

Bison... Yes, I could get enthused about a buffalo hunt, absolutely!

Those are some nice recoveries.
2000 lbs is a lot of bull.

Yes it is! LoL

Before he went on the trip I told him to shoot a nice 2 year old. The old guy was the only legal animal he saw in a week of hunting so he shot it.

Even the gravy was tough ............................... ;) LoL

Those are some serious slugs you have there, can't imagine how big a 2000 lb Bison would look.

Nice bullet performance on a huge critter. My bison hunt (bull only) starts in October and I can't wait. I'm not sure on which rifle to take yet.

Definitely heavy duty performance on a big tough animal. You can't ask for more than this in bullet performance.

Now, imagine that a 338 didn't push that slug through the neck at 25 yards! Yeah, bison are tough critters; but the Partition Gold (and Partition) is up to the task.

Thanks for the report and photos showing the bullet performance.
I always wanted to try to chew my gravy

Blessings,
Dan

Man, that is some serious bullet performance right there. Those are some tough bullets, that look like they were made for serious penetration.

Thank you for posting them. Awesome performance.

Partition Gold.... the ultimate big game bullet. IMO these were/are the best bullet Nosler ever made. It is a shame they discontinued them.

I have three recovered .277 bullets. One from an elk and two from a mud embankment. 90 % weight retention and picture perfect mushroom identical to yours.

Man that had to be an adrenaline rush with a 2000lb bull!!!

I remember when midway closed out bulk blue boxes of 308/150 /50for $5.95/box....only bought 10 boxes cause I wasn't sure if my gun would like them.....should a bought 100! Still have a few left. I sectioned the upper half of one bullet it looked like a tsx only with lead in the hollow point!
Looks like that 250 on the right was made the same way!

The bison made me think of a story about two decades ago when I was working as a camp counselor at a YMCA day camp as a summer job during college.

The zoo in our town had a big damn cow and a calf, fairly placid that lived in an enclosure near the parking lot. Our bus unloaded near it and the kids, mostly mouth breathers and miscreants, were milling around the pen.

The cow and calf had made their way over, hoping for a handful of grass or corn. One particularly bright kid thought it would be funny to grab one of the reinforcing bars, swing over and power kick the chain link fence right next to the calf's head.

The calf bolted backward at the same moment about a 3/4 ton of pissed off momma bison slammed into the fence from about five feet of running start. She bowed out the fence about two feet and knocked the kid down. If that fence hadn't been built as well as it was, that kid would have been pasted.

I am still amazed that the little bugger didn't crap his pants... Being about 10 feet away, I know I almost did.

Yeah, those bison can put the hurt on a person pretty rapidly. I'm also surprised that the kid didn't come unglued.
