Redding Neck Thickness Gauge

Jim, do you ream necks?

Just wondering as I am always on the hunt for new tools!

Scotty , I don't . I have one custom rifle that should have a chamber that is cut true . I feel that rifle should benefit from having the necks trued . I'm going to say most factory rifles will not see as much benefit from turning the necks as a custom . factory chambers could be cut not in perfect alignment with the bore and will probably be looser too .the way I think is if I have a loose cut chamber in the neck area , then I turn the brass neck thinner I added to the problem . I am allowing the brass to expand more than necessary , and will wear out my brass quicker from over working it . also the more you size down your necks the better chance you have of creating run out . I guess I'm trying to say , half a thousandths run out in the brass neck will not matter much if the chamber and bore are out of alignment by a couple thousandths . Jim
