My father has a 30-06 Springfield, as well as, having an aggressive form of arthritis similar to rheumatism. Anyway, I found reduced load data for this cartridge on the Hodgdon web site in the youth section that uses a 125 gr. Ballistic Tip that will cut down on recoil by about 50%, which is a good thing. My question is, since the sectional density is only .188, is that still adequate for deer size game? I have read a couple of articles that state that you should have a bullet with the sectional density of at least .215. Granted, the 125 is only .027 off and shot placement still needs to be on the money; I was just wondering what other people were using successfully. I know that in my 06 with 150 gr. Ballistic SilverTip kills deer dead good enough, but other opinions are greatly appreciated.

Speer lists a reduced load of XMP5744 with 150 gr bullets that might be a choice. The load would duplicate the 30-30 for all purposes (2052 fps max) and should be a good short range deer load. Remmington now sells a line of "managed recoil" ammunition. They make it in 30-06 along with a few other cartridges and claim a 50% reduction in recoil. The `06 ammo has a 125gr CL that`s designed for deer sized game. You can see it here......
