Alliant is sending all production to commercial contracts at this time, and all of their retail powders are not being produced.

Discontinued true or not is used by Midway sometimes just because they haven't had or will receive said merchandise instock for awhile. Seen them do that before. Those powders are unfortunately unavailable to us for the near future for sure.
I sent Alliant an email and ask, here is their reply.
It is still being made and by no means discontinued.
Currently the bulk of the issue with powder (all powder companies) is the Lack of Nitrocellulose. Nitrocellulose is a key component in double base powders. All our powders are double base. The shortage of Nitrocellulose is caused from supply and demand. There are only two suppliers that manufacture Nitrocellulose. One out of the two currently shut down for the foreseeable future. Causing our current shortage. We only sale to distributors, who then sale to retailers. Distributors can sale any where at any time. They do not share that information with us.

If Vista Outdoors does finalize the sale , I doubt we will ever see Alliant powder in the US again.

I hate Re17 anyway but if it goes away, then I may well see no more Re16 and that would bother me...it has become my favorite powder. Fortunately I have enough for about 5000 rounds.
Maybe I should worry about bullets instead.

Aren't alliant, ramshot and winchester powders double base? They seem readily and cheaply available.
I don't know. Go on the Alliant website and email them the question, they answered mine very quickly. It would be interesting to see what they say.
seems like 10x, 7, 16, 15.5a and arcomp are about the only rifle powders we can still find in stock.

I use R17 in 300 WSM's
Have 5 of them now....
I can get around 3100 with a 180 Ballistic Silvertip and a GM215m
I have a jug and a half remaining...
Since the scarcity started I slowed down shooting those weapons.

Word around the campfire from my inside sources...
Most of their powder materials are being used for the fighting in Ukraine.
When a powder gets scarce everyone loves saying it's going to war...
But in this case I think that might be true.
I think back when this got scarce and it lines up in the time-line of the fighting over there...no?
Feb 24th of 2022 was the start of the fray.
It was around then Alliant all but disappeared...right?

Maybe Trump can help our powder shortage by ending that nonsense over there

Easy to google and see nitro is in short supply worldwide as it is used in many things including powder. It's dangerous to produce, so we don't do it in this country anymore. It seems rockets and drones are the weapons of choice these days. Don't know how much smokeless powder is used by those?
