First question that I always ask. Have you read the instructions? You should be able to screw the die up away from the case mouth enough. I have never used the expander die as a powder through but it is the same die except you stick the powder dumper into the top of it.
You need some flare to seat a bullet to keep from shaving the bullet or buckling you case. That is what the Lee Factory Crimp Die is for. It will iron out the flare and taper crimp and size the case into speck.
