Does anyone have any reloading info on the 300 wsm? i just bought the rifle today, and don't even know where to begin on what powders to use on this caliber. i'm probally going to use anywhere from 150 all the way up to 185 grain bullets. any help would be great....

Mine really likes RL-19 under 150grain and lighter pills..CCI250M primers. In addition to the shortmags site listed above most of the powder manufactures also have load data listed on line.

Congratulations on the new rifle, you should like the 300WSM.

There is a wealth of data in the latest editions of the Nosler, Hornady, and Sierra manuals.

There is also a very good article with LOTS of loading data for the WSM and WSSM cartridges in the January 2005 issue of Rifle magazine (No. 217). John Haviland shows loads for all the Winchester short magnums.

I recently worked up loads for a new Winchester Model 70 chambered for 300WSM. I have to admit to only working with 180 grain bullets as I knew that was the bullet weight I wanted to use from the start. I have owned 300 H&H, 300 Win Mag, and 300 Weatherby Magnum rifles and they all just simply shot best with 180 grain bullets.

I used Sierra ProHunter and Nosler Partition bullets and they both shot quite well, especially the Sierra's. The first trip to the range after I broke the barrel in I shot 6 groups with the Sierra 180's and only one of them was over an inch. The Partitions took a little more work but I had little trouble getting them to shoot groups of an even inch.

I tried IMR 4831, N 560, RL 19, and RL 22. All gave reasonable results but this rifle preferred IMR 4831. I would have expected RL 22 to be a better choice, but not so in this rifle.

I settled on a load of 68 grains of IMR 4831 behind the 180 grain bullets and used Federal 215M primers. This should be considered a max load and you should start several grains below this level. In fact, this load is a half grain over max in the Nosler manual, but safe according to Sierra. In the rifle in question it was just fine. The groups were an inch at 100 yards and the velocity was 3050 fps.

Have fun with the new rifle.

1st Congrats on the New Toy opps Rifle.

Ours likes the 150 gr. Sierra Pro Hunter & the good'ol Nosler Partition with both H-414 and IMR-4064.Haven't worked with other powders or bullets to say anything about them.

Good Luck with it.

My Browning Bar 300WSM likes Ramshot Hunter, 165 Nosler Partitions or 180 Accubonds with Fed 215 primers. Sub MOA with both bullets and the velocities are very good. I have tried R19, AA MagPro, IMR 4831 and Ramshot Hunter. Hunter wins hands down in my rifle in both the velocity and accuracy dept.
