Reloder 17 / .30-06 / 180 Partitions

Sadly, the 30-06 is held to a lower pressure standard thanks to those poorly heat treated early 1903 Springfields.
You could probably say the same about the 7x57 thanks to the 93 and 95 Spanish Mausers because they lack a third locking lug although the M95 does have one of sorts.
My take is a rifle has been made to handle the .270 Win. then there should be no problem using .270 pressure levels in the same make and model rifle.
According to what it says on the bottle, Re17 is, "CONSISTENT MAX VELOCITY IN EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS." I thinking of working up a load in one of my 30-06s with either a 165 gr. or 180 gr. bullet, maybe even both if time and finances permit. The 165 gr. AB worked like a champ January 13 of last year. I didn't have time to do any work with the 165 gr. PT. :(
I am taking time off from anything with serious recoil until my eye doctor gives me the OK. Big batch of floaters that popped up unexpectedly so want to get that squares away. Be the .223 Rem., .243 Win. and .257 Bob tops till I get the go a head. Left out the .22 Hornet but can go to that if need be. Even have a .22 cast bullet that shoots reasonably well in the .223. Might try it in the Hornet.

I have the Model 70 Classic Stainless .30-06 as my go to rifle. The 2900 fps you are getting seems very impressive. I have had the best luck accuracy-wise with H4350 and the 165 and 180 grain Noslers. Mine has always preferred the 165 and 180 grain bullets. The 150's never could group as well no matter what I tried.

Dale, like I said...I may well end up using something else before it's over. You just never know and I've seen instances where something looks promising at the beginning but just doesn't pan out. I ain't married to the Re17! But I won't consider it a loss because I have other calibers where it could be an interesting experiment. I shot 5-shot groups to find the charge that worked best and I'll use 3-shot groups next time out on my seating depth hunt. If I don't see something under an inch I'll be on the prowl for a pound of something else to try.

Paul, I hope your eye issue is a short-lived one...hopefully you'll be behind your most vicious rifle again soon, grinning ear to ear.

Good luck with the seating depth. Looking forward to seeing how you make out. I'm getting fairly antsy to get some of my rifles out and shooting once the snow clears up a little.
