I just bought a Remington 700 classic 35 Whelen, still new in the box. I have 3 other 700's all stainless, and they are all great shooters moa or better. I had been looking for a 35 whelen for a while, do any of you have any experience with this particular rifle?

Great buy on your part. I had a Classic which I let slip away. I've regretted it ever since. Everyone I know who has a Remington Classic chambered in 35 Whelen is well pleased with it. It will not let your down.

I have a M700 CDL 35 Whelen. Great shooting rifle. Congrats on the rifle! My favorite cartridge.

Congratulations on your M700 Classic 35 Whelen.
I have a M700 Classic 35 Whelen with a Leupold VXIII 2.5-8x36mm scope. It is a nice handeling rifle and very accurate with Remington 200 gr PSPCL, 225 gr and 250 gr Nosler bullets. My old friend has taken quite a few WT deer and a 250 lb Black Bear. Only had 2-3 blood trails to follow, they were very short and very heavy.

Good snag. I've only shot mine on paper so far. have done most of my .35 Whelen work with my custom Mauser. I found mine M700 Classic at a gun show for a very decent price. About all I've done on it was have my gunsmith do a trigger job on the gun. Prior to that being done, it was like running two flat bastard files against each other. Groups using 250 gr. bullets, the Speer Hot Core and the Hornady spire points and round nose have run between one inch and 1.25" depending on the bullet being shot. Those were shot with H335. I'll be doing a round of shooting with RL15 next. RL15 made a very good showing from my Mauser with the Barnes 225 gr. TSX.
I'm leaving the Ruger M77 .35 Whelen for use with cast bullets.

The 35 Whelen is a great calber, Great all arounder!

From prairie dogs (110 JHP with Unique at 1500 fps) to the big bears!

Congrats on a great combo. I've never seen or heard of a stinker. I was bidding on a gorgeous Classic in 35Whelen this week but the price became prohibitive. I'm kicking myself now because it had fantastic furniture. Oh well.

I'm certain you'll enjoy your new rifle.

I'm pretty fond of mine. One of these days she's going to be getting a new scope, a VX3 2.5-8x36. Probably S&K mounts at the same time.

You bought yourself a great working man's rifle and the caliber can stand up to any of them

Blessings,
Dan

It is just darned hard to beat the Whelen. 200's for the smaller stuff and 250's for the rest! Plus, they have all been very accurate as I am sure you will see from the pics around here.

Thanks for the great input, I still have not got it in my hand. I am planning on using it for bears, moose, and elk in the timber. My rum is great, but not to handy in the willows in AK.

I think you will be very happy! I am jealous you get to chase all them critters with your new Whelen!

Big fan of the Whelen myself as is well known on this forum it will work great for you. My favorite bullet is the 225 gr AccuBond but there are lots of good slugs to choose from. Check out the 35 cal section of the bullet test section here on Noslerreloading.

How did you install the pillars? What are they made out of?

I'm working a new wood stock soon, but I was planning a glass bed only. Did the pillars improve things?

Pillars cost about 10.00 and they are very worth doing Joel. If you can bed, you can do the pillars!

Check Stocky's Stock's for a HOW TO. Great instructions and very easy to do.
