The question is:
What differences are there between the various Remington 700 rifle models? The "SPS" stainless synthetic versus the ADL, BDL, LSS and CDL stainless synthetic and laminated stocks.. I know the XCR and AWR have special weatherproof surfaces but what about barrel quality, stock quality etc. I realized that I don't know exactly what model the 300 RUM I bought is.
I know a lot of you are pretty expert on this things.
Thanks
Greg

My take on the Rem 700 variations:
ADL = Blind magazine, High Gloss Wood, Blued Metal
BDL = Hinged magazine floor plate, High Gloss Wood, Blued Metal
SPS = Special Purpose Synthetic
This model could be blued or stainless
XCR = an SPS with a better finish in the steel and stock
CDL = Classic Deluxe - a BDL in a satin finish

I wouldn't think (but don't know for sure) that the Quality Control is any different with any of the models. I've owned a few 700s over the years and never had one I didn't like. To me the 700 is a work horse that won't fail you. Good gun for the $$.

Model 700 is either long or short. The action is either made of stainless or chrome moly. All barrels whether stainless or chrome moly are all hammer forged rifled and comes in different contour. They might dressed it up with different types of stock and called it by different names, it still a Model 700. Unless the rifle came out of custom shop, the quality of workmanship is typical of any factory made, mass produced firearms.

Thanks Everyone
I read somewhere that the sps had a lower quality barrel and I never thought about it before. I have 2 XCR's and a LSS but this rifle I bought has a hinged floorplate and looks for all the world like the LSS except for the stock.

Greg,

The fellas have pretty well summed up the M700's. I think the SPS has a rougher finish, which helps keep the cost down.

Let us know how your 300 RUM shoots.

The difference in the older ADL and BDL(not sure about the newer ones) is that the ADL did not have the built in cheek piece(Monte Carlo ) on the stock also.
