Remington's CDL and accuracy?

POP I got a Rem 700 B&C addition in a 270 WSM last summer and it is by far the nicest looking rifle I have ever had, but I have not been able to get it to shoot consistantly yet. I did get a 140 AB group just under an inch this last weekend with RL-25, but I have not double checked it yet. This gun has given me fits, I'm on the verge of selling it if I can't get it to shoot, a guy can only try so many different loads before he gets fed up with it.

If I own a 700 again it will be a custom build.

Man, that is unreal, a 270WSM and a M700 combo that is giving you fits to shoot! JMAD, you should try RL22 and some 150BT's. Not saying it is magic, but I worked up from 61 to 66gr's and about every group was about an inch for three shots and 66gr's was about 5/8 and almost 3100. Thats too bad you are having such a hard time with the 270WSM, Mine has been very accurate and seems to be pretty easy to get great speed and accuracy from. Scotty

Savage American Classic fills the loooks category...good accuracy rep to. If the remmy dont work out. CL

The CDL as a hunting rifle can not be beat in my opinion.
I have one in 270 win, my nephew has one in 7mm mag and my son has one in the 35 whelan.
They have all shot sub MOA with my leadsled and are just great looking.
We have all had the same things done we had the Remington clip system installed as we wanted them to be different than all the other CDLs.
The only complaint I have had with the CDL is the heavy trigger pull once that was looked after they are #1 in my book.

Blessings,
Dan

Pop, I measured my CDL shoots the 200 AccuBond into 5/8" group at 100 yards combined w/ R-P brass, 95.0 Retumbo, WLRM. This was with initial load work up. I have it zeroed at 300 yards, giving me 3" high at 100, not enough to worry about at 200, and -11" at 400. I can spin knobs if it's further than that. I don't even bother target shooting at less than 300 yards. That's a good thing too because that bullet cracks the other side of heat treated 5/8" steel at 300.

Optics include 5.5x16.5x44 Nikon Monarch, 20 MOA EGW one piece base, Burris Signature rings w/ inserts.

I also had a KDF brake (same as weatherby accubrake) installed to make it more enjoyable for me to shoot during the year. I had it installed before I ever pulled the trigger, so I'm not sure how bad the recoil will be, but I'm ok with never finding out. With it braked, I'd say it recoils comparibly to a 30-06 loaded with a 165.

The stock is very nice and dark for factory wood and I jut love the way it looks. The 28" barrel with brake is a bit long and grabbed tree branches while hunting this year, but I'm willing to deal with that for it's long range capabilities. Good luck with your new gun. I'm sure you'll like it. I'm not sure if I would have sold a 30-378 weatherby for it because that is the largest 30 cal there is, but the RUM is second to largest and should only be about 100-150 fps difference.

Believe me if they made a rum I would have ordered it.

All this big gun talk led me to play AC/DC Big Gun and Thunderstruck on the computer. I think it's subliminal....ok, time to reload for my little 7mm08 now!

PS Pop, Savage offers the 300 RUM. Not sure about the 114 but I have seen it in 116.

I called them. They ran out of rum magazine boxes and they are looking for vendors.....

Well I played with her today. Put her on law away for the miserable Wyoming winter. Was not going to shoot it until spring anyway.

Totally gorgeous rifle. 3 lbs trigger if that much!!!! That shocked me!

We will see accuracy wise! :p

Fotis,

Congratulations buddy! Why don't you just send it my way. I can snow shoe down to the range and get her sighted in for ya.

I might be tempted to do so. You got better luck with Remingtons....

shipping would be less to just send it a little short jont south of you.... I already have the dies, Nosler brass and the 200gr A-bonds.

POP... just as an FYI JAX in Loveland had two boxes of the 200gr A-bonds yesterday.

Oh cool! I always forget about that store man!

I've got two Remington CDL's in the Boone&Crockett series. One is in a 270Win and the other in the 300WSM.Fluted barrels, laminated stocks,R-3 recoil pads are awesome, just really nice rifles with great feel. The first thing I did before I ever shot them was remove the pressure point in the stock and free float the barrel, then I bedded the recoil lug. Both rifles will shoot one ragged hole groups. The only problem I had was the 270 Win. does not like boattail bullets. It will put the flat base bullets nearly in the same hole, but boatails, around 1 1/2-2" groups.

I did one of the new SPS stainless rifles in 300 RUM and went through a bunch of powder trying to get it to shoot (mostly H-1000) and almost gave up on it till I tried 7828 with the 180 AB. It loved this load so away it went with the new owner and 300 weatherby ballistics. Since that time I have had nephews working with them and found the 200 AB and Retumbo to give 3200 fps and good accuracy. The only problem is the extractors quit removing the spent case after a while. This has happened to 3 guys I know. It should be a simple fix to have these replaced, but what is it with the RUM 700's and extractors? Might be them getting a little over pressure or just plain crappy steel in the new Remington's extactor? I have several 700's from the 70's and 80's with no problems at all!
