Rifle/Cartridge Wish List?

Well I guess I need to add my two cents. It wasn't even a thought until those fine people at Winchester decided to release a M70 in 7X57. I now own a set of dies so then the thought came across that I need an M70 Mauser collection. I currently own a 6.5X55.

My wants are:

M70's
6-284
257
7X57
8X57
9.3X62

That should keep me busy for a couple years!!

Good set of cartridges, Jake. My next want (?)/need (?) is an 8X68S built on a Model 70.

I had a Krico .22 Hornet stolen years ago. I wouldn't mind having another .22 Hornet at least. The Krico was a sweet gun too though. I have a few things in the works already that need to be finished. A .500 Weatherby, a .500 A-Square, a .300 Norma, and another heavy barreled .30-8mm. Beyond that I want to build a .375-.338 Norma Imp. or a .375-.338 Lapua Imp. I just picked up another Rem. SS 700ml so I might build a smokeless muzzle loader finally. I've been wanting to build one for awhile.

That would be a fascinating cartridge to work with. It wouldn't add a thing to modern cartridges, but it would be unique in today's world of shooting.

I still have a little craving for the .50-110WCF.

However a double barreled express rifle in .577/500 magnum black powder or a .577 nitro express does on occasional basis haunt. I know the cure though..:lol.

IF I had time for more NRA Highpower match shooting, I'd like:

1. A highpower type AR-15 for service rifle competition.
2. To set up my "Green Machine" for NRA match rifle competition, maybe even swap to a .260 barrel.

IF I had the time & budget for dangerous game hunting, I'd like a .375 in a repeater rather than my single shot Ruger Number One. Maybe a .375 H&H Model 70 Winchester, or a Kimber Talkeetna. Or maybe a .375 Ruger in either the Ruger bolt action or the NOSLER bolt action... I about drooled all over the keyboard when I saw that one on line...

And an "old west" style single shot rifle - a Sharps or a Remington rolling block... Something Quigly-like!

700 Classic in .221 Fireball (still kicking myself for not getting one when they came out :(), a Sako 6.5x55, and a Model 70 .375 H&H, either Alaskan or Safari Express.

I am stocked with rifles for an old man but I would like to have a genuine Mauser from Europe, stocked in Europe in 7mm Mauser.

That would be very cool. Still waiting on Mike to give us a report of his new Featherweight 7mm. Thinking I might have to save up for one of my own. Or a 6.5 Swede if they ever make them again.

There are so many, so little time....so little money.

My next project will likely be a .22LR.... I love having a good grade bolt action .22 lying about and right now mine are all strictly plinker grade.

I also still have the matter of a lefty youth rifle to drum up for the boy...probably a 7-08.

I was surprised at how many LH 7mm-08's there are when I checked it out. Remington SPS, several Browning X Bolt's, several Savage's, several Tikka T3's, Ruger Hawkeye, and some I'm sure I'm missing. That's a pretty good selection of lefty rifles.

Hopefully, I can get a scope mounted this week and do some shooting with this, Scotty. Man, I've been swamped for the past several months.

I had a 7mm boo boo from Dave Tooley which was based on the 8x68 RWS case years ago, it was my first custom wild cat rifle build and I wish I never got rid of it.

I now have my sights waiting for a GA Precision Thunder Ranch in 6.5 x 47 lapua! Ya babe..... I think it's time for me to put my skills against the guys that do this stuff in competition and put my best foot forward! God, why did I wait so long for this to come I'll never know? One thing I noticed, most if not all these guys raced dirt bikes back in their day....... wow we have something in common I see other then just shooting things. Did I mention I got my Marksman and Pro-Marksman at age seven while at camp for 8 weeks.... that was interesting being hundreds of miles from home all summer, I learned a lot though. :p

I know, I know what your thinking, but if you only knew me when I was much younger. I was a machine, born with some of the greatest skills a person could ask for and the brains to match. I have my Father to thank for that and God to know better! Ok back to this blog..... did I mention anything with a 6.5mm or 7mm bullet is about optimum for recoil and high B.C. at the same time?

I went to camp in the summer also when we lived in the city, Montreal or New York, when I was a boy. By the time I was a teen, I lived on an island of 150 people in coastal southern Maine and built our own camps and owned BB guns and later .22 single shots, bolt actions.

I just wish that my dad's Oberndorf, Mauser-Sporter, custom, 7mm Mauser had not been stolen when I was a younger adult. My sister and half brother are not shooters and I would have inherited this rifle instead of some kid buying dope with the proceeds of the theft.

I just bought a CZ 453, .22 LR for informal target shooting, assuming that rimfire Ammo will be available some day again in the future?

I really like my Classic Fireball, just need to replace the wart on the bolt shroud, and do a little more tweaking. Maybe bedding and replacing the scope.

As to the other two, yes and yes!

Winchester Model 71 348 Winchester

Winchester Model 70 375 H&H Alaskan

Winchester Model 70 7mm Mauser

Winchester Model 94 BB 356/307 Win

Winchester Model 70 280 Remington

Winchester Pre64 Featherweight 270/30-06

Winchester Model 70 6.5x55 Swede

None of them are absolutely must have but their all rifles I would enjoy in cartridges that are pretty cool and useful. Man, this is another list I hope the wife doesn't run across in the Internet history!

Can't argue with any of those... Well, maybe the .270!

As far as M70s go, I really want a Sporter CRF .300H&H.... An SS .375, a Safari Express in .416, some sort of .284 Win., an EW in 7WSM...

Think I need to add a 26 Nosler. Ran the numbers and it would make for one flat shooting cull rifle.
