I am trying to find out a fair value for a rifle that I am thinking of selling. Tried completed auctions on gunbroker but nothing popped up for the caliber and we know Caliber helps dictate price. The gun is a Ruger #1B Red Pad 280 Rem /7MM Express (has both caliber stamps on the barrel.). 1982 according to serial number look up. . It is in unfired condition with the original box. I did mount a scope but never fired it. Any help would be appreciated. Posted on Ruger forum weeks ago with no response.

Have you tried looking at the blue book value.? It may give you a ball park at least. Then compare to Gun Broker. Yes chambering changes price but should give you an idea.

It being marked 7mm Express probably makes it worth a bit more to the right buyer. Depends how patient you want to be.

Is Blue Book something I can do online ? #1 know prices are all over the place. Only 280 I see on gunbroker is a used black pad #1 with some laminated after market stock that has a $1649 buy now price.

1500.00 would be a good price. The 280 deserves more respect than it gets but that doesn’t help you out. Blue book has it at about 1250 in excellent condition.

I would agree with Don, $1500 for a stamped 7mm Express in unfired condition seems fair and reasonable. Just be patient and wait for the right buyer.
Good luck with the sale.

If I hadn't spent my "mad" money on a truck I would be your buyer at the 1500 level! I love these Ruger #1 rifles, especially the one you have. Oh well, I guess. Good luck with the sell

So take a look at GunBroker. Most guys anymore list their rifles with a starting bid of 1500.00 or what ever. Some guys way more than that and nobody ever bids on it. I looked at that 280 you saw on gunbroker. I would buy it for 800 and not a penny more. I’ll bet it doesn’t sell. There are several Ruger #1B in 2506 and a couple of 7 mags. That were started at a minimum bid of $.01 those rifles are near the end of the auction and people are bidding on them and they are all around 1500 bucks. I’ll bet if you list it at 1500.00 some ass clown will call you at the end of the auction period and offer you 1200.00 or there a bouts. Start it at .01 and I bet you get at least 1200.00 but nearer 1500.00 and you’re done with the exercise in two weeks.
I’ve been watching #1s for quite a while. 280s are rare, I don’t think you’ll have trouble selling it.

I am not doing an auction. Just sold 3 Ruger 77 RSI’s on auction and lost money. If I post it will be a simple buy now. I surf gunbroker at least once a day for new #1 listings. Some of the prices people are asking are just crazy.

They are nuts for a lot of them, but they’re not selling those high dollar ones. I did miss a great deal on a 450/400 over the weekend. Loved in about 15 minutes late.
