I am considering a new Barrel for my T/C Encore. If it is not bad enough that I am still trying to decide between a .223 and a .22-250, it gets more complicated.

I am using a 24" Stainless-Steel Bergara Encore Barrel in .30-06 on my T/C Encore Frame currently and have been very pleased with the Barrel. I was impressed with the smoothness of the bore right from the get go, and copper fouling has been at a minimum from the get go.

I am not totally positive what Rifling Twist T/C uses for their .22-250 Encore Barrels (I would assume it is either 1 in 12" or 1 in 14"), but I do know Bergara .22 Caliber Centerfire Encore Barrels are 1 in 10" Rifling Twist.

I intend to shoot 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip Bullets through this .22-250 Barrel. According to the information on Bullet Lengths I have that I obtained from the Bullet Mfg'rs the 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips and 55gr. Hornady V-MAX's are quite long for caliber. When I run these numbers through the Greenhill Twist Rate Calculator the outcome is that these bullets should have a 1 in 11" Twist.

So the question at hand is if you intended on shooting 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips through a .22-250 would you prefer a 1 in 10" Twist Barrel ?

Thanks

Larry

Larry,

The short answer is yes!

The 1:14 twist can sometimes be iffy with the 55 gr BT and no way for the 60 gr BT.
Some day you may have a need for a heavy bullet like the 60 gr BT and for this one (due to tne length, not weight), a 1:10 twist is the way to go.

Thanks JD, that was kind of my thoughts on the matter but wanted others opinions.

You're in luck! TC barrels are 12 twist in both the 22-250 and 223. I shoot 60 v-max in my 22-250 and 55 v-max in 223 Encore barrels. Both shoot these bullets wonderfully! I believe you would need a 7-10 twist to load the 60 B-tip because it's longer than the Hornady in same weight.

My Rem 700 does just fine with the 55gr B-tips or 55gr Blitz-Kings and is my prefered weight. I used to shoot 50's and there is a noticable difference in knock down on the yotes.

With that said, the next barrel will have a faster twist because I think the 60gr B-tip was made for the 22-250

I did it. Yesterday I had my dealer order my new .22-250 Encore Barrel. I am getting a Bergara 26" Heavy Contour Stainless-Steel 1 in 10" Twist .22-250 Encore Barrel.

I figured since I am pleased with my .30-06 Bergara Barrel I'd try another one. Also ordered a new Forend for this new .22-250 Barrel and a Scope Mount too.

Probably won't get to shoot it till after Deer Season is done. But then now I have to start saving for a Scope too.

Powerstroke,

Well said! I just wish my M700 VLS would shoot the 60 gr BT. If it did, it would be my bullet for the 22-250.

Larry,

Congrats... let us know what you end up with for your loads....

JD....
So the race is on to see who can shoot out their barrel the fastest for the next rebuild ? I don't think I've pulled the trigger on mine for a couple years now.. the .260 kind-a took it's place  and it even has a two stage canjar trigger on it....

Getting a new barrel for my 22-250 (Ruger #1) with a 1 in 12 twist this winter. This barrel used to shoot 55 grain bullets, but would never stabalize anything longer. The barrel has over 7000 rounds through it, so it won't shoot anything very well any more.

I'm doing it for a different reason than Mark (yotes), since it is a heavy barreled varmint rifle. The p-dogs really go for a ride when they get hit with the heavier 22 cal bullets
