RL 22 280 Rem

RL16 seems pretty good as well depending on what you find. I've seen good accuracy and 2900's with 150 grain bullets from it.

RL26 and 150's should be a rocket ship in the 280 Remington.

Trouble is finding Alliant powders locally can be tough, Especially 26, 16, 22, and 19..According to the website, Cabelas has RL-26 in my "local" store which is 100 miles away, but fortunately I'll be going that way Thursday for work, so hopefully I can find some then..

Yeah, I have kinda succumbed to just ordering enough to make it worthwhile to pay the HazMat fee, doesn't take much.

If you get to the eastern side of Virginia, Green Top always has a good selection of powders.

Especially when you consider how much gas money I'll spend driving to Bristol or Charleston, both are around 100 miles, so the Haz Mat isn't too bad...I just did a big order with powder valley, enough for 5000 rounds of .223. They are actually a little cheaper on their powder and bullets than the big chain stores, so there's a little savings there too..But my live in financial adviser says that my limit for now..LOL

I've got a decent load for the 150s with IMR 4350, but put these rounds together this afternoon for a ladder test with Reloader 22.

I couldn't resist! Just to throw another curve into this 280 load development, I just ordered up some Federal Trophy bonded tip's...I messed with the old trophy bonded bear claws before, but this is one I've never used.

It is an excellent bullet. It will carry the goods, without a doubt. Like all bonded core and monolithic bullets, it does like a jump to the lands and it does give the greatest accuracy as it nears maximum charge.

Went today with the 280 and Hornady 154 grain InterBonds with Reloder 22 shooting 4 shot groups.

At 100 yards the best group was at 57.5 grains, and set back .050 off the lands..Average speed of 2878 fps....I noticed it really didn't come to life until I got near max.

Jeeeeeeeeze.... that's a done deal. That 154 at nearly 2900.... nothing much left to do there. Congrats on a great load.

Thanks, guys..There is a little meat left on the bone (powder wise) I didn't experience any over pressure signs except the primers were just starting to flatten a little bit, but I don't see a reason to push it any further.....I do want to experiment with RL-26, I think it will provide a little more speed, hopefully without loosing accuracy. Either way the 57.5 of RL-22 load is right in the "goldilocks" zone of speed and accuracy.
