He has completed one #1 project for me and he will be doing one a year for the next six years. The young man is a magician with #1. I have the prototype 1/4 rib replacement he engineered on my 300 HH. Cosmetically it looks very good, solves the problem many have mounting scopes on #1. In the last two weeks I have shot three .25 MOA groups at 300 yards so the mount must be engineered pretty well. He also improved on my bedding work, which I thought I’d done a pretty good job.
My 300 would string when it got warm, I improved it some, now I can shoot 10 shot groups without the notorious #1 stringing issue. In my case the 300 was a slightly sub MOA shooter for three shots sometimes five if I took my time and kept velocities at 30/06 levels. Now I’m running 180s at 2990 and getting 1/4 minute accuracy.

Whatever you do, stay away from Wayne at Oregunsmithing.
I will second that. Wayne York has absolutely destroyed my stainless steel bull barrel on my #1. He made it clear after I brought it to his attention that he DOES NOT GUARANTEE his work. I wish I had been able to find all the negative reviews before he hammered me for $690.00. Here's a couple pictures of the bore on my #1. Not only am I screwed out of the money I paid him, now I get to pay to have a new barrel made.

Yup he shafted me on my #1 with a brand new benchmark barrel 25-06 AI 1-7 twist. Destroyed it....

Looks like it was cleaned with a rat tail file.
Wonder what he was thinking/doing.

My gunsmith went ahead and borescoped the barrel . he scoped it It looked the same way yours did...I had to buy a new Brux barrel.

I agree he is certainly a hack. This was a purpose bought #1 22-250 in stainless laminate with the intention of having it bored to 6.5 Creedmoor. When I found that Ruger never built it, I decided to have one done. Getting a #1 was kind of a memorial gun to honor a very good friend who died in 2023. Having it bored to 6.5 was because the environment I hunt and live in the 6.5 is the perfect caliber. So long story short, I bought a rifle that took me nearly a year to save for then saving some more to have it bored to a one-of rifle. I was given Yorks number to call. He gave me all the right answers. I'll try and post the YouTube video I took of the barrel.
BTW, Paul Hampton is going to build me another barrel in 6.5.
I have filed a dispute with my CC company. We'll see where it goes. I've asked him to refund my money. His response was that he would try and bore it out again to a .284 Win . I have no use for the caliber and besides that I wouldn't trust him to take out the garbage without screwing it up.

Some years ago he was well regarded. Had quite a following a decade ago. I had him do a stocking project as well as installing a Wyatts magazine box. That project took some time but turned out well. Probably 15 years ago.
It comes a time when it's time to retire instead of ruining your reputation. It's figuring out when that time is can be the tough part. I used to build custom fishing rods. The time came when my arthritis in my hands was start to show in my work. It was time to quit. Sooner or later your age will catch up with you.
