The value is surging on that limited run of 35 Whelen Hawkeyes. The current price will prove to be a real bargain in another year.

You aren't kidding Mike. A rifle you could have picked up for around 550-600 bucks is creeping pretty far upwards. I think the Rugers are a great rifle. It is ashame they dropped the Whelen. I actually wanted a Ruger when I was in the market, but Remington was the only one with one, in their CDL, so that is what I got. I am happy with the Remington, but I think I would have liked the Ruger a little more.. Not complaining though, the Remington has done well.

This is where I find Leupold's nomenclature maddening. The ad says it's a NIB VX III. Is it a -III or a -3? Been a while since -IIIs were manufactured. If it is a -3, that might not be a bad deal. If it's a -III, I'd pass.

You didn't like the VXIII's Kurt?

They are fine, but I don't expect to have to give pretty significant money for an outdated (though probably entirely adequate) product.

I had a M700C in .35W bought NIB back in about '90 or '91. Nice rifle, but I sold it maybe two years ago. Still waffling over the M70, M77 or M98 decision for the next (last?) one...... :?

I shouldn't have let my Classic go, but I did. Now I have a fine shooting Ruger with a Hart barrel that gives me excellent results.

That sounds like a great set-up! I am leaning, heavily, towards a SS Ruger (today!). I met Bob Hart a few years ago in a hunting camp in Maine. Very friendly, very nice fella. We tossed back a few and had a good time for 3-4 days.
