Well Scotty, I just called the gun shop, and this rifle is on consignment, I made an offer of $1500 firm, they well contact the seller and get back to me on Monday or Tuesday.
2..I also asked to find out where and whom magna-ported the barrel.
3..I also asked to take it to the range (behind the shop) and take it for a test run if the deal goes through. I'll just pop on my Zeiss Conquest 2-10x42 just to see how the 400gr A-frames group (I well pay for the ammo)
4..I'm keeping the .375 H&H, and just buy the rifle out right.
5..I'll keep ya posted bro! :mrgreen:

One thing has always bugged me about buying guns. I can test drive a car, I can't normally test fire a gun. Unless purchasing from a private party. Often they'll allow some range time.

That .416 is even more-better than the .375 as a big game cartridge. I remember Remington introducing it as a standard length magnum, but duplicating the wonderful .416 Rigby ballistics, about 2400 fps with a 400 gr bullet.

Thanks Guy :) ..I guess it`s sorta like a private deal in a way, they at the gun shop all know me, and the gun club is just behind it. I would feel better about the deal firing about a box of ammo first, not for the recoil, but mainly for the accuracy and cycling etc.
Now I just gottta wait a few days to find out :roll:

I think it's a fair offer, if it was me, I'd surely let a potential buyer test it on the range if I wanted to make a sale. If he belongs to the gun club, I might just even know him?

Without a doubt Lou. No harm in letting someone shoot it and make sure it's worth the hassle.
 
Not many places still allow or even have a gun range in their business besides a test fire barrel! Back when I was a teenager I knew a store in Magnolia, Arkansas that all ya had to do was ask and he would take ya down in his basement which was set up as a range! Owned by Bob Olive which was a popular guy back in the day and his gunshop was an old huge house! Unusual back in the 70's in rural Arkansas to find an indoor range to say the least! I understand rifles had to be re blued after the process unless Sako did them prior bluing ? My FFL dealer is big into doing this to all his nicer rifles as well! Lou I hope it turns out a big thumbs up and hope the deal works out for ya as I understand the 416 is stiff but more manageable than a few others. Nice furniture and hope the groups do the outside justice! it would be hard for me to walk away but as you mentioned group size and operation is foremost!

Thanks Terry, the shop always uses the range for customers, so really my situation is no different, after all, they want to make a sale, and the consignee wants to get his rifle sold, I'll buy it only under my conditions, even for a few bucks more, no test drive, no buy. If the guy is desperate to sell this Sako, then I'm sure he'll come to terms with me.

Well I went to the gun shop this morning, and checked this baby out in person :) ..man, this rifle is just absolutely gorgeous!..It's in about 99.5% as in new condition, looks to be hardly fired, and not a mark on it, from lock,stock and barrel. They have contacted the consignee (seller) with my offer, but he hasn't responded yet. I was tempted to pull out my credit card and pay full price, but I just couldn't do it :oops:

Hope it works out. It's a beautiful rifle in a truly awesome cartridge too.
 
Mine shoots 300gr Barnes X's at 2960fps using H-4895 but I also have a 26" barrel. I use the same powder for 350gr Speers at 2650fps. I've shot a few elk and deer with the 350's and a moose with the 300's. One deer was at 430yds and the furthest elk was 350yds.
