sask Boy's 35 Whelen

Mike,

Good show!
Dan's 35 Whelen is going to be a tack driver for sure, even if the bolt is backwards. It is a fine looking rig.

The M70 338 Federal is a keeper. Nice lines and looks like she will point well.
I am a fan of the 210 gr PT, it is one heck of a bullet. It would indeed be a good stating point for you to use the 210 gr PT.

DAN!!! That rifle is going to be a tackdriver buddy! If it is shooting like that with factory ammo, I can't help but think it is going to be incredible with your handloads!

Mike, I gotta say, that 338 Federal looks very good! That rifle looks very proportioned and just nice. They did great work on it. Seems like they could have gone the extra .02" on the barrel, but either way, it is a slick rig and that 24" barrel should really let that rifle run.

The Model 70 358 Win Featherweight would be a sweet rifle as well. I have a feeling if I did that, alot of rifles would get orphaned! With that nice long Winchester mag, the 200 and 225 AB's would work really nice I think.

Gotta say, that 338 Federal is a sharp rifle though. Hope the 210 PT's shoot for ya. Can't imagine much those wouldn't handle around 2700FPS.. Especially at the wrestling distances you hunt!

Well if you had an M70 Whelen wouldn't all the others be orphaned too?

Mike that is a sweet looking rifle. Hopefully a little TLC will tighten her up!

A Model 70 Whelen! Now that would be the ultimate. I can see that happening shortly. It would create some tension in the gun room.

The only negative I can think of (at the moment) is that I just put a new Hart barrel on my Ruger Hawkeye and it is shooting so accurately. I may have to think about this for a while.

Okay, I thought about it. Yeah, that could happen.

A 280AI in a M-70 would be sweet as long as the bolt was on the left side and it had a custom barrel 8).24" PacNor or Benchmark would be my choice

Blessings,
Dan

Though 2 are better than 1!! besides just re-thread that one make your Hawkeye a 280AI!!

A couple of (useless) comments. I met Bob Hart back in '09 on a Maine bear hunt (no I did NOT score!). He is a great fella and we made tentative plans to hunt again in Texas for hogs. Nope, never worked out. But, I can sit back and remember a couple of very enjoyable evenings talking to a rifle genius(?). Well to me anyway. My second point here is this; he is a really friendly fella and you'd never be disappointed after talking with him. A picture of the successful bear hunter (NOT me!) , Bob and me in Maine in '09

Tnhunter,

Thanks for posting the picture. There is a camaraderie here that permits moving from one topic to another. Eventually, someone will get the thread back on track. There are certainly some fine gentlemen in the industry. The barrels and actions available today are great, especially compared to what was available a generation back. I am very pleased with the sole Hart barrel I use. I can't say it is better than the PacNor barrels that are on other rifles, but it is certainly a fine barrel, nevertheless.
