Ahhhh, that brings back memories of hunting the fields just off the Sask. River, just south of Saskatoon! Nice Buck!!!

Hey Guys thanks for the complements but the buck was actually shot by my hunting partner of over 30 years. Doug and I hunted alone this year as the young guys had other comittiments so it was pretty tough on us to get the deer into the back of the truck. Doug has some physical problems due to muscular attraphee. Doug may not be able help lots in the lifting and field dressing area but trust me he is the toughest man I know since he has no muscles from his knees to his toes and from his elbows to his finger tips but he will never quit on you. People who know us calls us the crumpy old men as all we do is argue and have fun
His nickname is Wobbly as with splits on his legs he can walk but wobbles when he does. He is a instigator next to none and if there is a prang being played he is always behind it.
I will send a photo of Doug to Scotty and get him to post it.
Also if anyone knows the name of that game hoist you see advertised I would sure like the name of it as we need one to get the animals into the back of the truck. I think it is the time that OTD ( Old Timers Disease ) has crept up on me

PS. That is likely the smallest buck we have shot opening week in a long time. It was one of those ground shrink ones  we are blessed as southeast Saskatchewan is likely the Big Capital of Canada.

Blessings,
Dan

Dan,,, atleast it don't seem you have CRS setting in,,,,you remembered you didn't shoot that buck

I can attest to Saskatchewan bucks. This was my first and only many years ago, ( pretty weathered now). Wasn't the largest in the group, but the only one that presented me the shot I was willing to take. There was a a 180 class there, but walking straight away,,,,just wasn't going to chance that. This one was slightly better quartering away at 200-220 yds. And the 180 gr. PT out of the 06 was it. Put it between the last rib in front of the hind leg. It exited the chest just missing the front off shoulder. I didnt measure this one, but think its about 130-140.

Doug's with it's longer tines, lloks like it might make 150+

Note, cartridge is actually a 280 just placed there for scale,,,it was handy at the time

Thanks Scotty, for posting that photo of Doug.
As you can see he is the old, ugly one of the partnership (just kidding) but he is the best hunting partner anyone could have.
We have literally glassed thousands of animals together and have hunted together from Antelope to Bear. My kids are grown adults but still call him Uncle Bos which is short for his sir name of Bosley.
When he got that buck it was like he shot his first one all over again.
He would turn down a beautiful beef steak supper in the most expensive steak house for a good ole deer steak with hunting buddies :mrgreen:now thats friendship :).

Blessings,
Dan

Eventually, I will get up there to hunt them deer! It is the epitome of deer hunting in my book. I have dreamed of hunting the big Canadian WT's since I was a little kid. Scotty

Nice buck!
Dan, he may have shrunk for you but he is a whopper here.

Man, you aren't kidding about that. I would give up a lung (or other non essential organ) for a buck like that! Scotty

Man, that's a great looking buck, Sask! I got a text picture from a good friend/hunting buddy of mine who got an invite to Canada (not sure where) just this week. He got a nice one, but maybe a little smaller than your pics. Still, for us southern guys, a really nice white-tail!

I'm trying to figure out how to get up there for some hunting. I've met a number of good folks on this and a couple of other forums, and one or two has suggested I should hunt there. Now I've got to get that on my list, too!

The buck was shot high in the back  (I am sorry I have always wanted to say that.) No all kidding aside we shot the buck approximately 5 miles south of my nephew's farm in SE Saskatchewan.
I believe it to be one of the top producing Big Buck areas in Canada :)

Blessings,
Dan

Congrats on the buck it's a dandy. As far as the lift goes the ones that slide into your receiver hitch a good for skinning but that is about it, and they are heavy enough that to get it put in there would be just as likly as much work as lifting the deer. I am not sure of your budget, or if you like to dis figure your pick-up, but a headache rack with a winch is much better, with a snatch block a 3500# winch will pull a moose in like nothing. My buddy built a home made lift that lifts from the side of his pu but it also takes a little dis figuring of the vehicle. If you had a truck just for hunting ( I have an ol farm truck) then you can rigg it anyway you want with out having to worry about an ugly or inconvient daily driver.lol.
