I'm looking for a "Long Range" Coyote/Wolf gun. Shots up 600yds would not be unreasonable. I already have a Nitrex 3-15x50 to put on it.
Does anybody have first hand experience with this model of gun from Savage. I've shot my son's Weather Warrior 300WSM and really like it.
I own Sako 75,85 and Rem 700s, this would be my first Savage in 20 years.

I don't have that particular Savage model, but I do have a Savage 12FV in 204Ruger. Other than the crappy plastic stock, which got replaced, this is a very accurate rifle and I would go so far as to say I haven't heard of any crappy Savages from the past few years.

The Savage is very functional but the FV is not a good looking rifle. I owned the FLV in the 204 it shot the lights out but you need a wagon to get it around  I traded in for a CZ American in the 204 it also is very accurate and it is way lighter and very nice wood.

I would not be afraid to purchase another Savage.

Blessings,
Dan

I have the same model but in 204 ruger. It is a great shooting rifle, it's my go to rifle anytime I'm going out to shoot groundhogs. It will group just about any round factory or handload MOA or better. The only issue I have is that it will not feed properly sometimes, the round will pop up out of the internal magazine. This usually happens when shooting off a bench not out in the field.

Good choice! 243 Win will do the trick for you.

Call Effie in the Savage custom shop and relate your problem to her.

Just got my first hand experience with it today. Already had a 112 VLP
in .25-06 (no longer made) and really like it, although it took close to
a hundred rounds to break in. Out of the box, it would do 3/4" with the
rough barrel, and now puts the same bullets into practically the same
hole. It appears that the .243 VLP is going to do better than that, with
it getting less than 1/2" first day out.

Savage was making the VLP's with a center-feed magazine, but are now
making them with a detachable box magazine (and the price increase
says they are mighty proud of it). There are still center-feeds out there.
I got mine here:

I really like mine and believe it's the best looking of the Savages. It
weighs a little more, but I really like the looks of stainless against the
wood laminate..................not to mention the out of box accuracy!

Well I got one on order and it should be here this week. They are one sexy looking rifle for sure! Going to be using it for yotes, and some long range plinking. going to load 55 BT for riding around in the truck and then some 105 Nosler custom comp, and 105 Amax for the long range stuff. Elk season ended yesterday for me so as soon as it gets here it will be getting my full attention!
