I just watched a couple of videos by Targetmaster showing a extended pointer on a 5-10 scale. He did not indicate how he did this. Has anyone done this to their scale? I would think you would have to add weight to the bowl to counter balance the pointer.

A new old stock 505 I recently tuned....

In this instance the original pan support, the older style D5-7 support and funnel pan I'm using were re-calibrated AFTER adding the extended pointer. Both supports and pans weigh the same within .00005 of an ounce on my Gem Pro 250. I can mix supports and pans if the need arises.

BTW, the pointer must or should be made of a non magnetic material otherwise it will be or may be attracted to the dampening magnets and throw off the scale's linearity.

The supports I use have lead shot in them for calibration. It a simple matter of leveling the scale on the Vee block towers then adding weight to the support until the scale zeros both unweighted and at it's mid range with check weights, 250 for a 500gr scale for example.

I can say anything about those using nuts on the end of their beams for counter balance, I don't have or use that type of scales but I imagine adjusting them would accomplish the same as adding weight to the support and or pan.
