If we knew even a part of the hopes and anticipations of our leadership, we would likely rise up in horror repudiating every one of them. The founding fathers crafted a republic, and not a democracy. Those who were permitted a voice were those who had an interest in the country as demonstrated through property ownership. The rationale for this provision was that those without a vested interest would always vote themselves benefit from the public largess, whereas those with ownership in the country would demonstrate restraint. However, with the passage of time, civic education has been effectively dismissed from the education system, replaced by socialistic indoctrination, which has produced a generation of individuals who are convinced that the government owes them and that they can always vote themselves a more comfortable situation. Tragically, this view, supported by an uneducated electorate, appears to be prevailing for the moment. Now is the time for those who have an understanding of the intent of the founding fathers to speak up, informing family, friends and neighbours of the consequence of current trends.
