I am wondering if it is safe to use a wire brush down the barrel when cleaning it or not. Because I have heard that it is ok to use the brush and it wont hurt the barrel and I have also heard that if you use the brush then it will harm your barrel and decrease the accuracy.

You can use a wire brass brush, don't use stainless steel or you will damage the bore.

I use the swirly soft stainless brushes with out any problem. In my experience they give you the best feel for what in the barrel, and when everything has been smoothed out. The Tornado brushes are about the best. Now don't use the straight brissley stainless brushes, they may harm your bore.

Brass or nylon brushes are fine. Don't reverse directions while the brush is still in the bore!

On the other hand, if you can get your barrel clean with just patches and solvent - why not?
