Seating below the shoulder

I'm going to load up some 165 Accubonds with Varget for my Remington 700 in 308. Unfortunately, the mag box is only 2.830 so I'm going to have to stick with an OAL of 2.800 to ensure I won't have any feed issues. However, doing so requires the bullet to seat past the bottom of the shoulder by 1/8 of an inch or so. I've never had to seat a bullet that far into the case before. Are there any problems with seating the bullet that far into the case? I'm going to be working up from 42grs.

Damn, thems 165 Accubonds are long bullets.

..................There shouldn`t be any problems with seating down that far........As long as you are within your reloading manual`s specs for trimmed case length and cartridge OAL length.........For your 308 in my Sierra manual, the 168 match OAL is 2.800". For the 165`s in the gamekings, it says 2.750"............For my 300 WSM, I sometimes use the 180 gr. SST`s. With an AOL of 2.860", the SST bullet is seated below the shoulder by about 1/8"............No problems there and you won`t have any either!

With some bullets I have to do that in my Rem 788, and I've never had any problems.

A common happening with SA rifles and heavier bullets, no problems as long as you follow load data and don't try to make that 308 a 30/06.Rick.

As long as you have data for the bullet and powder there is no problem. I`ve seated many bullets deep and actually find it more common in my reloading then seating them with the base in the case neck.
You should see a 140 gr A-Max or Nosler HP Macth seated to SAAMI COL in a 260 Rem. The base is 1/2 way to the primer.
