So...

I took out my Savage 10TR with what apepared to be a good load.

I was reading over a previous post that when I get my bullet comparator, (Which i now have) I should try seating the bullet in by .05" increments and it will really dial in.

So i tried that. Holy cow...something was going on that day. No pictures as they are not worth posting. I made 4 of the original lengths, 4 more that were .05" shorter and 4 more that were .05" shorter than that.

These groups blew up all over the place. Should it have been in .005" increments instead? I left the range very disgruntled. I know this thing can shoot 1.5" at 200 yards. it wasn't even close...

Five thousandths increments would have been more reasonable. When I have a load that has a good standard deviation, but the accuracy is not all I would want it to be, I will make up a set of loads at 0.010 inches off the lands, 0.040 inches off the lands, 0.080 inches off the lands and 0.120 inches off the lands. One of those will likely stand out with better accuracy than the others. I'll focus on that particular seating depth, adjusting in 0.005 inch increments to find the best accuracy.

Thanks Doc. Now that I have more powder to play with I may just start out at the beginning again and see exactly what is going on...and then take your advice to the reloading bench.
