Use the press to seat primers or use a autoprime tool ?

I have read seating them .005 " below flush , but how do you go about taking that measurement ?

What do you fellas' do ?

Either way will work. I use an RCBS Universal Priming Tool. It works beautifully. You don't want to crush the primer; just make certain it bottoms out in the primer pocket. You are well advised to true the primer pocket first with a primer pocket uniformer.

Thanks guys , I have everything for case prep and I'll go ahead get the RCBS hand prime and shell holder .

I use the hand primer tools for seating primers. This way, I can feel the primer bottom out.

I use the press, I got rid of the hand seating primer. I just didn't like it for some reason.

Don't know how to measure how deep it is, I usually keep it pretty flush. I just go by visual and by feel.

I used the hand primer until I got a Forster Coax press. Now all my priming is done on the press and I couldn't be happier.

I still get smaller groups using my hand primer, versus the RCBS Rockchucker. Until that changes, I will use a hand primer. I have two, an RCBS for large primers and a Lee for small primers, so that I don't keep having to change shell holders.

I use a RCBS hand primer . it gives a nice feel for when the primer bottoms out in the case . then I just rub my finger over the primer to be sure it's a little lower .

Exactly my method & tool too. If I get 'anal' & short of something useful to do, I might just take a measurement of seating depth with a vernier, but never do anything about changing my process.

RAY, I used a Lee because it came with my kit years ago. After that broke, I knew I wanted an RCBS and went with the universal to eliminate the shell holders and it was worth the extra few dollars. Last night I primed .223 and 444 Marlin brass with a simple change of a few parts to go from small to large primers. I would get the same one again in a heart beat.

I bought the rcbs hand prime with a shell holder , I looked things over and experimented with a new case and I can definitely see how primers can be seated improperly.
The priming pin is not in true center with the guide and the shell holder doesn't allow the primer pocket to be dead center unless you work with it.
