Sell me on a 35 Whelen!

Cheyenne, your saving grace is that you picked up a 348. Otherwise...

Guy,
You know you want a 35 Whelen! Now as I see it, it's very simple. Just re-barrel that 30-06 of yours to a 35 Whelen, no rework on the bolt either. Whah lah you have it!!!

Nah... Have a LOT of .30 cal Noslers sitting around, waiting to be inflicted upon game... Or targets... The .30-06 is good enough for me.

But I do admire the bigger brothers on the '06 case: .338-06, .35 Whelen, and particularly the 9.3x62... (y)

If you really want to get looney, have that Whelen reamed out to the Ackley Improved...then come and howl at the Hunters Moon with me, lol! :) With my 200 TTSX going 2950, +3"@100 gives -3"@300! My 168 TSX 30-06 load does the exact same thing! Of course, a standard Wheln with at least a 24" bbl will do about the same when loaded right, but that Ackley case is one sexy beast! ha It's the only rifle I keep telling my wife I want buried with me...hey...you never know what we'll be allowed to do in the Millennium!!!:)

Damn; Dr Mike is about to disown me )-: and Scotty might never talk to me again. )-;

BUT-- we looked at the 35 Whelen, twice. the first time my husband opted for the 340 Weathery. the second time I opted for the 348, however in my case I really enjoy the lever and my shots are under 250 yards, so the extra yards the whelen would give me did not mean as much to me as it might to you.

Should I turn in my forum card now or wait for official notice from Jim that it has been revoked .

You are safe girl!
Good thing you opted for a M71 348 Win! (y)

Yes we can allow that to pass without you getting into trouble  (y)

I'm glad that Cheyenne stays.

The 348 Winchester is a cool cartridge. Mine is dieing to get out and hunt! For a lever gun, besides the 45-70, that danged 348 is some serious HP. Should be a hammer on bear and other large sorta game.

As for the Whelen. All you folks with 30-06's have a chance to save yourselfs right in your safe. They make perfect donors!

$250 is all it takes!

...Cheyenne, the Mod. 71 in .348 Win has the same je ne sais quoi as a .35 Whelen '03 Springfield...

I'll make it official. I second the motion that Cheyenne stays. All in favor say, "aye!"

Gene,

je suis d'accord

merci

On company time and computer so cant stay and play, in fact had to get permission to make this post.

Dr Mike, Scotty, Jim, Vince, Paul, gerry, Gene, thanks for letting me stick around, especially since the Whelen was up for consideration, twice and got nosed out by something else. On this forum that is sacrilegious (-;

Dr. Mike, Gerry, Saskboy---we are currently preparing to check out how well the Dall did through the winter and attempt to come up with numbers ( Northwest Territories )

Oh, alright, Paul; but only because it was a Model 71. Aye, but she still needs a Whelen.

Cheyenne, trust the winter wasn't too bad for the Dalls. They are hardy animals; but the winters can be severe on them and on the goats.

Cheyenne, I say Aye as well . I have to agree with a Doc on the 35 Whelen it is almost getting to the point where a 35 Whelen could be mandatory  on this forum. As you know that I am just kidding (y).
PS. I am looking forward to your post regarding the Dall.

Blessings,
Dan

G'Day Fella's,

R Marshall, I have a couple of .350 Rem Mags that I'm very happy with!
FYI, the .350 Rem Mag, is an almost ballistic twin of the .35 Whelen!!!

Hope that helps

Doh!
Homer

Homer, I have both a 350 RM and a 35 Whelen. I like 'em both. I'd be hard pressed to say that one is preferable to the other.

G'Day Fella's'

Dr Mike, nice to hear of your personal experience with these two calibers/rifles!
As you say and I agree, they are both Crackers calibers!!!

Doh!
Homer

Even though I have 0 need for a 350 Rem Mag, I believe I'd still like to own one built upon a M70 like action. With a mag box long enough to get a little length on the 250's and longer 225's I think it'd be a fun one.
