David asked me if I would think of something for the 4th round of the tourney! I am kinda thinking of doing a 200 yard shoot (use 100 if you don't have access to 200) and sling up. I am going to go with sitting on my rump with just a sling. Target doesn't matter to me, just that you are doing this from the sitting position (sling or no sling). If this is agreeable, maybe we can get this one in there. I need to practice a little more from sitting anyhow. Scotty

Great minds do think alike! I think that shooting from the good old military, sitting positon, slung up, is a fine way to compare shooting skills at 100 or 200 yards.

I will take another range trip later in the week, I was there this afternoon, and try shooting my .338 Federal and maybe the .45-70 from the sitting position with a sling. I normally sit for shooting game from that slung position anyway.

I will give it a whirl the next time I hit the range as well Charlie. Hoping to get out this weekend again to get some more shooting in with the 338WM and 35 Whelen. I will probably also have the 264 or 7WSM along as well. Those are kind of the primary bolt rifles for this year. I will most definitely have the 45-70 along as well. Should be a good shoot. Scotty

...I can tell all ready, this is gonna "HURT"...

...oh, well, getting old ain't fer sissies...

...any target, you say??? Good, cause I just tried to print out a Nosler target, printer's been sitting so long the cartridges are solid...

Yeah Gene, any target you want. We tried to keep with the Nosler target, but in reality for me, it is cheaper to buy good targets than it is to print of the Nosler target. They are nice and all, but ink is expensive.

Looking forward to seeing your shot groups. It is a good time to do this on the range. Either shows where you need work, or just how sharp you are. There is the third point also, lucky shots count as well! Scotty

Sweet. Should be a good turn out if we can get a few of us to post up some more results! Scotty

I'm about as flexible as an old weathered oak fence post, so it should be interesting to see if it is possible to shoot in the old sitting position  .

I'm in, got to get some rounds loaded up for the -06 and 7mag first, but should have something by the end of the week. Wooho. Can't wait.

Corey

I've been busy looking for my Mountain Goat Scotty but I'll see if I can do it too. Thanks for taking up the slack!

No sweat David. This should be a good one I think. Always good to get back to slings and the basics. Scotty

...hmmm, I know I got an old nylon M-16 sling around here somewheres...

...luck is over-rated, Scotty, I got me a 2X3' sheet of butcher paper covered w/ 3" OrangePeel dots. I almost guaranteed to hit sumpthing, "Old Age & Treachery", ya know...

Marlin 1895, .45-70 at 100 yards sitting. Taped holes and hole in center of target are sighters from bench. Upper and lower RH bulls are sitting position (no sling). BTW, ammo is Winchester 300 gr HP factory ammo.

Nice, great shooting Charlie! That is great you got the big guns out for the contest. I will have to do the same this week. Scotty

I like the way you think Gene! This is a fun contest when you get a bunch of guys to put up some targets. Plus, no better way to get tuned up for the Fall then get in some good field shooting. I never seem to get enough of it. Scotty

This thread has dropped off the active screen. I thought that I would revive it a little until someone else posts some targets. I loaded some 160 Accubonds for the 7mm Mag and will get it out to test sometime over this next week.

Thanks Charlie, I will be posting targets tomorrow for this as well. Scotty

Well I went out last week to make this shot and totally blew it and missed hitting the target by 1/2 inch. I knew it as soon as I shot it. Very disapointed in my self, going to go out this week and try it again though.

I've been meaning to do this shot for a while now, and finally got it done... sort of. I'd been doing a little practice with a sling a few weeks ago and broke mine. I borrowed one from my dad to use for the shot and when I grabbed it to take to the range this morning, I grabbed the broken one. So, I did the shot sans sling.

.223, .270, and .30-06 sitting, 200 yds:

I actually did better without a sling than I had been doing while practicing with a sling in the past weeks.
