Hi folks,
I have the itch to get me a 7mm RUM. I have a 300RUM LSS and a 338RUM Sendero. The 7 sounds like it would be a fun caliber to play with. I guess I am limited to either the 700 CDL or the new SenderoII(no worries there, I like M700's) Anybody have any experience with the big 7 and any good load data? Any info would be appreciated!

Had 2 of them A sendero and a Sako 75 SS synthetic. I still have the SAKO of course and it's twin in 300 RUM.

5 shots under .7" at 100 yds without any brass prep or anything like that. With 94 gr of Retumbo you can get about 3300 fps with a 160 AB. Talk about flat!
My buddy shoots the same gun/caliber and he launches 140 TSX. 2 antelope over 400 yards last year and 3 elk. 2 elk were with ONE shot so basically he got a two-fer!
It was not intentional and his hunting partner that was with him tagged the second one. Darn TSX went through 2 elk and exited both. In shoulder/out shoulder/in hip/out hip. Immediate death on the first elk no femur arteries left on the second. His buddy ended it with a shot to the neck but the 2nd elk had lost SOOOOO much blood it could not move and was expiring anyway!

Nice gun overall!

Since you are dealing with an itch, I will offer some help.
You NEED to buy the 7 RUM because:
1. You don't have one
2. Collect all four, (get a 375 RUM for the holidays)
3. Now you can try the 700 Senderro II
4. You can develope some good 7 RUM load data and share it
5. You will truely have a flat shooting rifle, flatter than most varmit rigs

Actually, the 7 RUM would be an awesome round to have. My experience has only been with the 338 RUM which is a hammer on game.

Thanks for the info, guys!
My local Sportsmans Warehouse can get me either a CDL or SenderoII in 7RUM, so now I gotta decide which one
Sounds like Retumbo might be the powder of choice(like the 300RUM)
I wonder what the big 7 would do with 175 grain bullets. Now that could be fun...

About 3150 fps easy!

Well, I did it!
I ordered the rifle in the 700CDL. I did not like the feel of the stock on the SenderoII,felt totally different from my 338RUM sendero. Weird. So now all I need to do is decide on a scope!
Whoopeee!!

4.5-14 leupy. I have the same but in burris flavor.

Congratulations on your 7 RUM CDL.
Go with a Leupold VXIII 4.5x14 or a Mark 4 4.5x14PR. You will have a set up capable of 1K yds.

I might give the MK4's a closer look. I was thinking of either a Zeiss 4.5-14 conquest, or a Swarovski 4-12X50. I have had good luck with the Swarovski'on other rifles.

well, I picked up my rifle today!
The more I look at it, the more I like the style of the CDL.
Now I just got to wait for my bases and rings to get here, and I am in business.
A big thank you to everyone that provided load/bullet suggestions, I am looking forward especially to trying the 160 grain AccuBond with Retumbo

 Congrats! I've got two 700 CDL's, one in .25-06, the other is a .300 RUM. I like the looks and handling of these rifles. Very nice production rifle that looks like what I wanted from an American sporter rifle.

Enjoy that big 7!

Thanks Guy!
I am very impressed with the styling on this CDL. I might have to snag one in 30-06 sometime! -I would imagine your 25-06 shoots well?
By the way, How did your bear hunt go?
Regards
Tim

 Yes, the .25-06 700 CDL shoots pretty good. Not benchrest quality, but it slings 'em in there plenty good for 400 yard mule deer hunting!

Bear hunt was a hoot. My 15 year old son and I wandered the hills for two long days. He ate everything in his pack, and most of what was in mine. We didn't get a bear. Wah. Found bear poop. Lots of it. And bear tracks. Didn't find the bear. We ran into snow, heat, rain. Beautiful scenery. Made a lot of really bad jokes. He learned more about hunting the forested areas... It was a great weekend, and we didn't have any big old smelly bear to deal with at the end of it - so I was okay with that!

Enjoy that CDL - they're pretty much like other Rem 700's, they just look and feel really nice!

Regards, Guy

The CDL is one fine looking rifle. Most 700's should do an easy MOA.
Let us know how she shoots.

I will certainly do that!
I am just waiting on a set of Talley rings and bases.
I am going to load up some 160 grain accubonds with Retumbo this week, can't wait to try her out!
