I bought a Sig P220 10mm Hunter a couple years ago with the intention of shooting a deer with it. I've been handgun hunting for a while now but I've never used a semiautomatic. While it has excellent iron sights, I really wanted to put a red dot on it & EGW makes a nice adapter that takes the place of the rear sight. I mounted a Vortex Venom with 3-MOA dot and loaded up some 180gr Hornady XTP's and 180gr Swift A-Frames. After doing some research here and other places, I chose Longshot powder for velocity and because I could find it locally.

Today was the first range session with the red dot & hunting loads. I'm a little hesitant to post my powder charge because it seems Hodgdon reduced it and I'm above max now but Nosler's manual shows charges pretty similar to Hodgdon's old data. I was hoping for 1200 fps in the guns 5" barrel and exceeded that.

At 25 yards every load was under two inches if I did my part. I was getting around 3-4" at 50 but would occasionally have a flier that really opened it up. I was hoping the XTP's and A-Frames would have a similar POI but the A-Frames hit about 5 inches right of the XTP's. Same weight bullet but the A-Frames are a good bit longer. A little more practice and I'll try and get a deer within 50 yards!

Loads consisted of Starline brass, 180gr XTP's and A-Frames, Longshot powder and CCI large pistol primers. Picture of the chrono is from the XTP load. I had another with a higher charge that averaged 1299 fps with XTP's and 1245 fps with the A-Frames. The slower XTP load seemed to shoot better.
