So what are you using this year???

What am I using this year? For elk in Wyoming, it will be my trusty 300 WM, with the 180 gr. PT, ( unless I like the Swift Scirocco). For elk in Oregon, it will be my trusty 300 WM, with the 180 gr. PT, ( unless I like the Swift Scirocco). Backup for both hunts will be my 7 mm RM, with 160 Nosler AB, or Hornady 162 gr. PSP. For elk and deer in Washington it will be my trusty bow, (assuming my shoulder cooperates). Pretty similar to the previous years, I do not embracing changing things that work.

Man, I would have never guessed your bringing the 300 Win Mag.... :p

I knew that!!!! Are you bringing the .338 again, or the Newton or both??

The 338 will always make the trip. Kinda thinking about bringing this 7mm Mashburn Bill. It's shooting really well and handles pretty decently. I'm thinking it might go for a walk somewhere. The Newton really does some time in the field as well.

So there you have my top rifle along with two backups....

Newton, Mashburn, Winnie, sounds like a horse race not a hunting camp!

Thoroughbreds through and through David.....

I'm going to use my Remington 700 in .243 Win, or my Remington 760 in 6mm Remington, or my Savage 99 in .300 Savage (y)

Deer will be using Remington 700 BDL in a 243win. using Federal Trophy Bonded 85gr. Copper ammo.
Elk will be using 375 Ruger Guide gun with a handloaded 300gr. Nosler AccuBond and backup is a Remington 721 300 H&H with a handloaded 200gr. Nosler Partition.

I'd sure approach those deer with caution. If they know much at all, they can hold off a hunter at quite a distance with those .243s. And an elk armed with a 375 Ruger slinging a 300 grain chunk of lead would be formidable. Just joshing you.

If I draw 'Lope &/or deer in Wy, and for sure whitetails in N. Carolina, it's my M77 7mm-08 with 140 AB's. Still fine tuning a couple of loads between 43.5gr of Varget and 49.5gr of RL-19. Not crono'd yet.

Ohio deer are going to get the M96 44Mag with Winchester whitebox 240's.

And if I get lucky beyond belief on PA elk, I'll have to make a decision. I have a Ruger Wolf that is intended to become a rebored 338 Fed. I doubt that I'd have it hunt ready in time, so if I draw it will probably stay a 308 Win until that season is done. Most likely I'll stay with my tried & true 165 AB's in front of 45.0 gr of Varget @ 2755fps.

I'm not sure exactly what I will have oppurtunitys for this fall, but am optimistic I will finally pull a bull moose tag . If I do I hope to use my bow and take one during calling season. I'm also plan on trying for an archery elk again , hope to put this new APA Mamba to good use.
I should also draw a mule buck tag , I may do a nostalgia hunt with the .32 win special , I haven't put it on paper yet after cleaning it. So that leaves me whitetail as ussual with a host of options . 243, 6mm rem , 7MM-RM, 300 winny, 300 bee. 308 win. More then likley use ol faith ful . My BDL in 7 mag.
Taking out my nieces fiancé this year will be his first year so that should be fun.
Today our Alberta draw system is open for applications today until the 25 of June.

Deer, elk, and beer i'm rolling with my Mathews Drenalin and 125 gr razors. For the only rifle hunt I drew I have a new 300 WSM and an antelope tag. Thing is so accurate and I love the rifle so it must go. So far 180-gr NAB and IMR4350 is just awesome and repeatable around 2900-fps.

Sounds like a good lineup!

Good luck with the beer....

For sure my 300RUM w/200AB will be going, as for the back-up, haven't decided yet.

What are you hunting this year Rich?

338-06ai & 280ai for groundhogs to prepare for deer & bear.

The 280 is in a synthetic stock and carries a scope so that gets the bad weather hunting or when I'm expecting to shoot a distance currently going to load 120 v-max bullets but for deer/bear will either use my 160 accubonds already loaded or load some 150 partitions

the 338 is in a wood stock with open sights so it's my sunny day rifle. fireforming on groundhogs, but hopefully have some 200 grain BT's in by this fall for deer then the 200 grain AB for bear

I do need to work up a load with my .243 using the 90 grain accubonds as it was my first deer rifle so may need to take it out to break my streak of bad luck the past few years

O.k. So....I won't be using my Remington 760 in 6mm Remington. It was getting too expensive to do anything with it. So I traded it for a Remington 760 Gamemaster in .30-06! Which I will be using this year to hunt deer over in the Sam Houston National Forest. Finally found somewhere to go that isn't privately owned. Woo-hoo!
I'm stoked now! Can't wait!

If I have time to get my 6.5saum dialed I might take it for cow elk and mule deer. If nothing else my old trusty 6.5-300wm will get the call. I might even have my new lighter barreled 6.5x47L along deer hunting if I finish it and get it dialed in time. I will be busy for the next month getting ready to go shrimping and fishing out of Quadra Island off of Vancouver Island BC. I haven't been there in 15 years so it should be a good time. The shrimp up there are the best I've ever had so I'm looking forward to that as much as anything (plus I'm not a huge fan of fish to eat except the clear meat fish like halibut and crappy). I almost have my 4 traps ready to go and I might build two more for the wife before we leave. I'll only be home for 5 days before we head out to elk hunt. So the old stand by might have to go elk hunting.
