I remember using the solid base bullets quite a few years back, maybe 20 years ago?

At that time I used them in both a 6mm Remington and a .300 Win mag, my only rifles. They were accurate and good performers, opening up readily, but not flying apart on impact.

Good to see that they're available again. I just ordered a mess of 'em from Nosler, and am looking forward to shooting them once again. As I recall they weren't as explosive as the ballistic tip, and were pretty much on a par for accuracy. After the introduction of the ballistic tip, the solid base bullets sort of faded away.

I anticipate doing some shooting with them over the next few months and will post results.

The 140 gr Solid Base shoots great out of the 280 Rem.

Let us know your findings.

I have enjoyed great luck using the 140 grain in a 7mm-08 and 280 Ackley on large Wisconsin Whitetail.

Regards.

For years my favorite 7mm Rem Mag load was a 162 gr Solid Base and IMR-7828 for around 3080 fps. It was awesome. Of course Nosler brought back the 140 and 150 but not the 162. That bullet performed so very well on whitetails. It always expanded well but did not come apart on heavy bone. A really great bullet.
