Well, I'm going to ask this..Why did NOSLER bring the SOILD BASE back?

Was it for the medium range calibers? (7mm-08, 308 etc) for DEER Hunting? :roll:

We brought it back for 2 reasons.

1. Federal asked for an entry level Premium load. It costs about $1-2 a box less.

2. Nosler wanted to quiet the thousands of calls demanding a return :grin:

It is a great multi-purpose bullet, at a reasonable price.

Lots of shooters lamented the passing of the Solid Base bullets, and felt that the Ballistic Tips, while accurate and very flat shooting, expanded too rapidly in big game animals. We are very happy to see the return of the Solid Base bullet as a cost effective all purpose bullet. I would be shooting the .270 130 gr Solid Base in my .270WSM, if they hadn't introduced the AccuBond. (AccuBond = Ballistic Tip Accuracy + Partition like penetration + superior ballistic coefficient) I still like the Solid Base, but the AccuBond is even better!

I know that the President of Federal Ammunition went to Africa and shot everything including an Eland with the 30 cal Solid Base 180gr out of a WSM.

All 1 shot kills.

Are the current Solid Bases of the same design and construction as the original ones? Or, have changes been made?

This is good news indeed! I killed my largest and first bull elk with a 180 grain Solid Base out of my .30'06 and my best whitetail buck, at that time, same load, same year. It also works on coyotes! Is this what is ment by a multi-purpose bullet :lol: ? I guess I won't have to hoard my last 2 boxes now!
I've never been to Africa but, if the Solid Base works on Eland, I guess it'll work on whatever I get a chance at. Thanks for bringing it back.-JDL

I liked the old solid base better then the balistic tips, I am glad to hear this

In looking at / reading about the Solid Base (SB) and Ballistic Tip (BT), I get the impression that the percentage of alloy is about the same at around 3% and the SB mainly differs due to the exposed lead tip.

BC's are somewhat close as well; .491 (SB) versus 507 (BT).

I would like to thank Nosler for making the Ballistic Tip bullet I"ve killed a lot of deer with them. I"ve shot them for over 20 years and my opinion there the best whitetail load out there.

The 162 gr solid base is one of my all time favorite bullets for 7mm rem mag. I sure would like to see it available again.
