I spent a little time at the range today. My intent was to sight the 280 back in due to changing to the Talley scope mounts. That went well. one shot and on paper and it was right back to "boringly" shooting those 154 gr SST's into 3/4 of an inch.

My other intent was to decide which load I was going to use this season in my 308. Ive been trying different charge weights, bullets, and seating depth over the past few weeks. As expected there have been several loads that have repeated more than once.

Below are the two that Im deciding over. I like the 150 gr BT load really well but I also like that 165gr Nosler Solid Base load. There's just something about those 165 gr bullets that I really like. I know the 150 gr load is a little better accuracy wise but to be honest those two shots that are just a tad off on 165 gr load are purely my fault. The 150 gr NBT runs about 2745 but I have not been able to chrono that 165 gr load yet but Im thinking that 46 grs of Varget will make those 165 gr NSB's sing a little

Either bullet will serve you well. And either load in your 308 will work very well on game. I sure like the 280, having used the cartridge for years to harvest a good number of mule deer and whitetails.

I've had mine for 30 yrs and have killed upwards of 150 deer with it. It is a great cartridge for sure

Interesting. I've had one of three different 280s for thirty years. Two were Winchester Model 70, and one was a Remington Model 700. Each of these rifles has always worked to ensure there was venison on our table. Can't see myself without a .280.

I raised our 4 children and 2 grandsons after their father was tragically killed with my 280. We always had venison and wild "hawg" sausage on the table. The only way I'll ever be without my 280 is through death.

Was talking with an old Marine buddy yesterday. His dad made him up a custom 280 years ago, and I mentioned his dad took much use of another rifle in his arsenal other than maybe a smaller varmint rifle and maybe a big bore for African stuff, since the 280 works so well for about everything in between.
