In addition to proofing some hunting loads for a bear hunt this next week, I thought I'd post some of the range work I completed today. This is the final set of loads for a 7mm-08 Styer Mannlicher.

This was the lowest charge tested, coming in at just over 0.5 inches.

This is the highest charge tested, coming in at just under 0.25 inches.

The load was built with 140 grain Sierra Game King bullets and IMR4350. Not bad. I trust the owner will be happy. I'd previously worked up a load with 140 grain AccuBond bullets, and I was requested to work up with Sierras. Go figure.

Nice work! Maybe he wanted a cheaper practice bullet? Sierra MKs do fly well, though no better or worse than a Custom Competition, and a dollar or two more. The CCs are harder to find locally, though.

And when it comes down to it, he asked, and you delivered!

Wow Mike. You have a lot of happy customers!
Nice shooting. Does that second target have 3 into that cluster!!!
Of course I do believe the shooter has a lot to do with it.

Yes, Steve, there are three rounds impacting in that area. It is 0.23 inches--not my best group ever, but adequate given the time I had to spend on this project.

Great shooting Mike. It is pretty important to keep your native tracker happy!

The rifle actually belongs to his wife. I casually mentioned in a phone conversation this evening that I wasn't charging her a great deal of storage fees. I may be in some trouble when next I see her.

Guys I was there with him, you know he is getting a little long in the tooth  but his eyes are still young
PS. He is good but how much better could he be if he shot left handed

Blessings,
Dan

Now, Dan, I've done that when I wanted to handicap myself.

Nice work Doc.

I've found the SGK HPBTs to be pretty tough bullets. Not so much the spitzers. They both have shot very well for me and as mentioned, the cost is hard to beat.

Great combo that 7mm-08, IMR-4350 and 139/140gr bullet. Definitely a classic recipe.

Nice shooting there Mike. Left handed and long in the tooth as Dan stated, or is it toothless?  What was the fps of the load?

Dan I got to see your big city of Regina back when I was in High School. We drove up there from Western Montana two weekends in a row for boxing matches. Man that was a long drive to Regina! Second week up I broke my thumb in my fight so that's a memory seared in my brain from Canada eh!
David

David, the young gunsmith in Regina is from Montana :) I know it is south of Maple Creek Saskatchewan and then about 45 minutes south of the border. He is going to be a real good smith I hope that we do not loose him.
He has really turned some heads with his builds. The guys are saying .5moa almost immediately he really loves it as well.

Blessings,
Dan

Dr. Mike shot this opposite his native hand??

I continue to say "I am not worthy"
..and this is a 7mm-08. Now that brings out the competitive blood in me. I just need Dr. Mike to shoot his and mine.

The 7mm-08 is a great cartridge, Dave. I still don't own one, but I should.

Dave, Mike was actually shooting 2 under appreciated calibers the 7mm-08 and the 280 Remington.
He definitely has them both dialed in.
I can't wait to hear about Monday's hunt:)
Actually will be seeing Mike in a few minutes before I start the track back to Regina:) Edmonton tonight and then on to Regina.
I could not have asked for a nicer time and I also was taught by a master!!

Blessings,
Dan
