Son's First Deer

Went to the blind Friday afternoon with my 8 year old son. He's hunting this year with his own rifle (only when I'm with him of course), a custom .260 REM his grandad had built for him. We had been in the blind around an hour when he whispered that a deer had stepped into the field. He made a perfect double lung shot at 95 yds. 120 gr NBT over 45.5 gr IMR 4350. I was a nervous wreck and he had ice water in his veins. My season is now complete if I don't see another deer! I attempted to add pics but couldn't seem to get them copied from photobucket, oh well...........

Thanks to all, especially Dr. Mike whom I consulted a couple times during the rifle build. He's already asked both mornings this week if he could just go to school when we got out of the woods- I liked the way he was thinking, but he apparently does not understand the power or wrath of mom............. :wink:

Honestly, I was thinkin' 8 had to be too young to handle a rifle....and then I saw those pics. If thats not what its all about I dont know what is. Those are priceless. Well done Dad! I'd say he's happily hooked. Nice deer. CL

Just 'congratulations' seems a little weak! Beautiful! Outstanding! The shared experience, the satisfaction, proper training and introduction to our hunting traditions - all of it. Quite an accomplishment young man! I hope to one day again shoot a deer that outweighs me :grin: :grin:
