Hi everyone .Iam new to this forum. Ihave been hunting moose and mule dear in BC Canada for the last 35 years. Ihave been using 180 Speer Grand Slams, 59 GR IMR4831 and geting .5 in groups at 200 Yds. After reading the posts here about accubound I was wandering if it would be time for a chang. Witch is a better bullet for moose? I do not want to change just for the sake of changing.

Why would you desire to change anything when you are shooting .5 inch groups at 200 yards?

Opps, why would I post a reply that wasn't productive? I do believe that .5 groups at 200 yards is very hard to beat, and the Grand Slam is a proven bonded round. That being said, I have dropped big bull elk in thier tracks with the AccuBond. Possibly, the AccuBond has better retained accuracy and velosity at longer range due to the boattail design.

I know that I definately have a bias, but I like the AccuBonds. I would not blame you for not switching. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. I think that another point that hasn't been addressed is what the end results are. The accuracy may be great, but what is the penetration and expansion looking like? If you are seeing deep penetration, good weight retention and good expansion, then don't switch. At the same time, I hate to pass up a chance to reload and experiment with new bullets and cartridges.

Welcome to the Nosler board. I think you will find a pretty good bunch of guys here with a wealth on knowledge.
Based on your load charge weight, I would assume you are shooting a 30-06. Give the Nosler 180 gr AB a try, it just might shoot better in your rifle.
The AB at 2700 fps should give you good penetration and expansion on both moose and mule deer.

Most of us do find satisfaction in working up new loads and the AccuBond, in my opinion is amongst the best of the best. Even with that being true, it doesn't mean the AccuBond will shoot better in your gun. Lucky for you, after expermenting with the AccuBond and having all the enjoyment of doing so, you can always come back to that 1/2", 200 yd group Grand Slam. You are in a win-win situation, and that is a good thing.

If I had a rifle that shot .5 at 200, I'd buy it it's own safe. and only take it out after ground hogs on good weather days.
and buy another rifle to tinker and load for, cuz that's what us reloaders do for fun- we like to tinker.... and it apears you have found the end of tinkering with your rifle.

I reloaded fifty rounds of Grand Slam. After the first twenty, I used the rest on new brass just to fire form. I'm glad they work for the Moose Guy.

Moose guy, my partner always used GS in his 280 but for whatever reason last year tried the 160AB. His accuracy improved slightly vs the GS but obviously your load or talent is better than his (I doubt a switch will improve your .5 group at 200!). He took a bull elk, bull moose and whitetail buck with 160 AB being completely satisfied with the 3 shots he fired from the 280 rem to collect his animals. All but the moose the bullets exited, the bullet in which we found tucked on the opposite side was a nice mushroon x2 the diameter size and weighted in a 60% of original mass. I'd say it(AB) performed textbook and to nosler's design.
Personally I have also used the AB for deer, elk and moose I was completely satisfied with what it did both on the range and game for me. After a year of giving something different a go, I am back to using 160 Ab in my 7mm rem mag for whitetail, mule deer and elk hunts planned this fall. I have always preferred nosler bullets but trying stuff is a flaw I possess. While I agree in " if ain't broke why fix it?". It also, is nice to have a fall back if things don't materialize on you efforts......but you never know till you give that other something a try. Any excuse to shoot is damn good one in my opinion.

The 338 Win 250 gr GS is alot harder than the .308 GS.......why I don't know!
