Nice bear this spring in OR.

Bear was grazing a creek bottom in some tall grass. Spotted him the continued down a trail for another 50 yds to get a shot.

Shot was about 75 yds with bear quartering away, but looking back over his shoulder my way. I had dropped my pack which made a little noise. Shot off my trekking poles with a Wiser connector.

Rifle - Kimber 280AI with 140 AB at 3200 fps

Shot too far forward and severed the spine with about 4 inches of fragmented spine. (Sorry no pictures). Bear fell where he was shot. Those bears are just black blobs in the grass like it was.

Guessimate 250-260 lbs. Surprising amount of fat already on this boar. Nice coat

Congratulations on your bear @orchemo ! He looks like he was eating well this spring. What are you planning to do with the meat?

Cooked up some blackstrap, carved up a couple small roast, but mainly grind into an Italian sausage for breakfast and use in recipes that call for ground beef. Found a nice recipe that I will post here this week.

Still working on last years bear, so will give bunch to some hunting companions.

Headed to MT in 2 weeks for spring bear there. Hopefully get my son on one !!!

Plan is to hunt along the ID/MT border out of Superior. If anyone has other suggestions, glad to listen.

Here is the receipe Inhave used for bear sausage. I think it came from a VT bear hunting magazine or something.
