Starting to kick around project ideas

Looks like my project may be shelved for longer than I thought.....or abandoned altogether.

Have no fear, all is not dark and hopeless!

Closing this door means, of course, that another has opened. :)

Natch! Spoken like a true gun crank.

LOL!

OK, I'll come clean.

A prewar 375H&H has entered the picture, and may become mine to accompany my prewar 300H&H.

That is an eminently reasonable position to hold, Tom. Go get 'em.

The Ruger 25-06 will likely need another home, and the 375 will come to me sans stock (long story), so right now, my inclination is toward a McWoody, since magnum prewar stocks are a PITA to locate.

Figured if I put that in a McWoody, it'll look nice and be a tough, no-nonsense gun to hunt about anywhere with.

Heck yeah Tom. As much as I love the Whelen, I think the 375 is going to be ultra cool. I am actually really looking forward to how you fix it up. The big H&H is one I would love to have someday.

A McWoody on the .375 would certainly be functional and would look nice, Tom. The prewar M-70 magnum stocks with the right barrel channel are a real project to find, in and of themselves.

Charlie, you sure aren't kidding on those stocks being scarce. Took a lot of looking and a few bucks to secure a proper stock for my 300H&H.

It'll be a couple months till I get the rifle. Waiting to shoot it till I get a stock will KILL me!

The other thing Tom, that you need to be aware of is that the prewar .375 H&H's have a 25 inch "C-1" barrel contour, so you may want to measure the barrel before ordering the stock.

I realize how frustrating this all this waiting can be. I have been there, done that with Model 70's. Think of it as character building.

Actually, this may be over before it starts. I misunderstood the option presented to me. It's a prewar magnum action, and a pre-64 375 barrel is available also, or a modern M70 barrel in 375. I want to go look the stuff over, but I'm not as enthused as I was prior. Such is the way of things.

Some day I will have a nice M70 in 375. Some day....

:)

Yeah, Tom, if the barrel year markings don't match the action Serial Number it will be a hard sell.

Tom, I think you have some cool options for that action, if you can grab it for a decent price. Pretty tough to get them Magnum Pre 64 actions for less than a leg or major organ, so it would make one sweet rifle to build on.. I know you spoke of a Whelen and you could always do a 358 Norma or 9.3 Brenneke with an AWESOME action like that and have one ultra cool thumper.

I like the way you think, Scotty. Those thumpers you name are just plain fun.

I guess where I'm stuck here is that I also kinda have a hankering for a 264WM, and I have a 30-06 I can build into a Whelen or other thumper, so I'm not sure if I want to take on this particular project....

Decisions! Decisions! Don't let it keep you awake at nights, Scotty and I will do all your planning, telling how to spend your money.
